*** Regular meetings are the first Tuesday of the month, unless posted otherwise.

Home-cooked Italian meals and refreshing beverages.

Parking: Free and plentiful around the building.
Attire: Casual, most people come directly from work on meeting night.
Eligibility: Anyone with an open mind. New members are always welcome.

who has zero fashion sense or class. She toured Europe looking like she dressed from the $2.00 bin at WalMart. Like her hubby, she is an ignorant recipient of an affirmative action education that she intellectually didn’t warrant and was a waste of each classroom chair into which she managed to wiggle.

The sooner she is out of the White House, the better this country will be. The only thing that she has done of consequence was to beat Jesse Jackson in cutting off Barry’s balls.

My point is, ‘presumptuous’ and ‘arrogant’ is very far from the prevailing public image even with dedicated Republicans. So what is the point in trying to swim against this tide and ‘re-define’ Michelle Obama based on the flimsy pretense presented in this article. It doesn’t acheive a policy goal even if it is successful, and it runs a political risk if it is unsuccessful (i.e., the public resents Republicans ‘beating up’ on someone they like).

I know it is just an article on a blog, but people do pull these articles sometimes and spread them across the ‘blogosphere.’ So, I personally think message control is important even here.

in $600 sneakers doesn’t have to be proven arrogant…she is either arrogant or ignorant…either way it would be best if she steers clear of influencing policy and stick to being the fashion maven she aspired to when this fiasco started.

Does your mother like her arms? Because I can’t think of one other warm and welcoming thing about the woman…maybe Mom should read her Princeton thesis and then reevaluate whether she still likes Michelle.

CZS delivers a polite and well-reasoned comment and gets immediately jumped for it. Gee, let’s have fun in the incredibly shrinking tent.

“Wow. What a creep.” Hunh? I am not sure Mrs. Reagan would appreciate Mr. Huston taking up the imagined slight for her. I googled “‘mismatched China’ -Obama” and got approximately a gazillion hits on this fashion, predating the Obama dinner. As shown in the excerpted blurb as well as in the original article, it was not Mrs. Obama but rather the author who mentioned Mrs. Reagan, and seemed to do it only to illustrate the irony of changing styles and times.

Okay, jump on me now.

notice I said “Spouse” leaving the Palin opening … anyway… it will, of course, all depend on who the next Republican President is as to whether his/her spouse would even be interested…. But let me speak in terms of if it is a Male President… We Republicans tend to gravitate to actual THINKING/REASONING type Women (whereas Dems are wed to equally flakey Liberal loons), and I would therefore have no problem with having the First Lady being appointed to a Post “Officially” and set the appropriate standard - if a First Lady wants to be involved in Policy they should be appointed to a post. I would have had no problem with Cindy McCain having had a role, as I think she is more Conservative than the Candidate we landed up with (but I digress and I’m just going to get myself, and probably you, pissed off about it). I certainly wouldn’t, however, if we have something like the Arnold and the Maria situation. eek!

To read a intelligent, thoughtful comment like that of czs on this site. It might do you well to not get so defensive and listen to the comment about being irrelevant ankle-busters.

First Ladies haven’t been “seen and not heard” in the WH since Betty Ford. Even Tipper took on the music industry for explicit lyrics. Why don’t you give Michelle Obama a break. At least she isn’t saucing it up in the rose garden.

They are typically of keen interest to ‘inside the Beltway’ types but very few others. For this reason, I think it is silly to try to parse personality traits from an article this inconsequential.

‘Us’ means people who participate on the website. Sorry if I haven’t posted enough to be one of the cool kids. I could say ‘you’ instead, but I wanted to imply sympathy to the underlying aims of the community.

I don’t know what moby means. A Melville reference?

I am assuming by the title and the sig line that you are calling my mom a lesbian. In my experience, the word ‘loves’ in reference to a public figure doesn’t usually imply a sexual desire. I apologize if that was confusing.

If a story comes out that the First Lady is trying to influence policy in a manner both hidden and inappropriate, then maybe it is valuable to try to score some points against her. But trying to spin ‘presumption’ and ‘arrogance’ out of a process story about the First Lady shuffling her staff makes us look like irrelvant ankle-biters.

I just don’t think you can create a meme about Mrs. Obama that is this contrary to prevailing public opinion without some substantial evidence. Hell, my mom - who hasn’t voted Democrat since Jimmy Carter and whose first presidential vote was for George Wallace - loves Michelle.

As much as she detests Hillary, Michelle respects the precedent Hillary set as First Lady. She has learned from Hillary’s mistakes and is maknig sure that all of the “t’s are crossed and i’s are dotted” in her tenure as First Lady. Nobody is going to laugh at the claims of gravitas and relevance which she will make when she runs for her Senate stepping stone in 2012.
