The only thing to make this scene complete would be Organizing For America members bringing <a href="http://babalublog.com/2006/08/ice-cream-and-cake/">ice cream and cake</a> for the students.

on the day of this speech, I would keep my kids home and let the teacher they would not be participating in any such activities for reasons many have cited above.

anyways, I make it a rule never to show my students anything without reviewing it first. My last exception was 9/11.

As federal power grows, the leaders are thinking that we're supposed to listen to them and follow them, not that they are our representatives. And the NEA commentary fits right in with the citizen as follower mentality that is antithetical to the foundations of our citizen republic.

republic, citizen is the highest officeholder. That the rights of the individual citizen, not those of the public servants, were to be championed and held in the highest regard. That we had public servants, and representatives, of the people, not "leaders."

This is completely backwards: "Why is it important that we listen to the President and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important?"

A child in public school should be pondering this question, instead: "Why is it important that the President and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor, listen to the citizens? Why is what the citizens say say to the elected public servants important?"

Un-freaking-believable.

But not surprising.

Thank you.

But it's the ominous NEA study guides that set off my early warning system by the obsequious tone of the questions. This is still not how children should be viewing the office of the President - or political speeches.

1pm ET, topic is supposedly the importance of education.

I will have to decide whether to be in the classroom when this is aired...or just watch it online myself.

I want to know WHEN this speech is and when parents will be allowed to see it. I expect to be able to see it or read it before my son does.

If need be, I will be IN the classroom when this speech is aired.

In the country, our children do not take marching orders from the President. The President is chief executive, head of one of three branches of government. Our allegiance is to the nation and Constitution, not to individuals.

Again, this sure sounds like asking children to pledge allegiance the President and to obey his dictates. This is what dictatorships do, not democracies.

What is insidious is the part about asking children to respond to his pleas, no balance, no dissent allowed, just join the <s>Hitler Jugend</s> Obama Youth Movement,

This is scary, especially as this is thrust upon educators with almost no notice - expecting educators to drop their curriculum to listen, just like Obama muscles the media to give him prime time for speeches.

Does this mean that children wil be ostracized if they don't conform; will parents be reported to the government if they don't want their children to be exposed to propagandizing.
