MEMBER DIARY

An Open Letter to Congressman Allen West

Congressman Allen West
1708 Longworth HOB
Washington, DC 20515

Congressman West,

“I, Allen Bernard West, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

Do you recognize those words?  Do you remember the day you raised your right hand and quoted them?  Does the pride you felt that day still burn in your heart, or is it a thing of the past?  Were you making a commitment, or just taking a job?  Is your commitment to the Constitution or the man in the Oval Office?  Back then there were no eagles on your shoulder, just a single silver bar.

It has been over fifty years since I raised my right hand and spoke those same words.  I am proud to be a veteran of the U. S. Military.  To this day I have never been relieved from the oath I took that day, and to my knowledge, neither have you.  I knew Ronald Reagan and worked for Ronald Reagan.  It has been my privilege to have lived under twelve presidents.  It is my opinion that Ronald Reagan was the best of the twelve.  You are the first man I have heard speak who I believe to be qualified to stand in the shoes of Ronald Reagan.

Since the day you took your oath of office you have more than proven yourself on the field of battle.  You were dismissed because of your loyalty to your men.  Your superiors may have disapproved of your tactics, but you won the hearts and gratitude of the American people.  The attitude you displayed in saving your men is the exact attitude we now need to save our country.

I know you feel a commitment to the people of Florida who elected you, and I can appreciate that.  However, what good will your commitment to the people of Florida do if there is no longer a United States of America?  Today we stand on the brink of destruction.  Not from forces gathering on foreign soils, but from the man in the White House and his minions in Congress.  They must be stopped in 2012.  You said, “I will walk through Hell carrying a gasoline can to save my men.”  Will you do the same to save your country?

The American people stand ready to rise up and reclaim our nation.  Not by military force, but by the force of the ballot box.  What we do not have is a leader in the mold of Washington, Lincoln, and Reagan.  You could be such a leader.  Experience is not essential to the presidency.  It was the “experienced politicians” who got us into this mess.  We need a warrior with a fresh face to lead us out.  You can best serve the people of Florida by preserving their, and our, nation.

When duty called 22 years ago you answered the call.  Will you answer the call of the sons and daughters of America today?  I am enclosing an article I wrote about you on my web site, “A Land Called America.”  You have the three qualifications I believe made Washington, Lincoln, and Reagan great presidents.  I implore you to put those qualifications to work for the people of America.  Please provide us with your leadership.

An old patriot who loves his country,

Allow me to be first to recommend your diary. He certainly stands out among a very mediocre potential field of GOP candidates. God bless this man and may be guided by the Truth and Integrity of the Author of all things.

    Go Vols.

I also have seen a couple of the Allen West YouTube videos, and he is impressive.

Well, not you wdleeper. But others may ask that. Here are links to his CPAC 2010 speech Part 1 and Part 2, and to his Closing Keynote Speech at CPAC 2011. If you are registered at /CPAC’s website, you get see them there, along with all other speeches of the last two CPAC’s. From there, a search on YouTube will yield a goldmine.

Great letter. I have watched his speeches, seen him interviewed and was so impressed with him that I contributed to his campaign. If we had more men like Col. West in our government, we wouldn’t be in the shape we’re in now. He is one of the bright spots in the future of the Republican Party. I hope he will be persuaded to seek higher office in the near future.

I believe he was one of the 92 Erick wrote about in this article.

Has anyone heard him give his reasoning? I really don’t want this to nag at me because I think West is amazing, and I don’t throw that word around like they do in Hollywood.

slamofascists are the Nazis (only worse!)
Obama is Neville Chamberlain (only worse!)
USA right now is England ca. 1938-39.

Allen West is the only politician I see who, like Churchill, has BOTH the deep understanding of our enemy AND the guts to fight that enemy. Not to mention his to-the-marrow love of America.

The British scoffed and sneered at Churchill for being an alarmist and a warmonger until

But West has a long way to go and a lot to prove before being put in the class of Winston Churchill. A few months in Congress and some pretty speeches does not make one a Churchill or a Reagan.

And we all better start being real careful about all these unearned pedestals before they turn out to be embarrassing pitfalls. West would not be the first to disappoint and he will not be the last should he disappoint us. And considering one of his last votes, we need to keep our eyes open.

Just a suggestion, how about we make sure by watching actions for a few years rather than relying on rhetoric and less than a half of a year of action prior to anointing them our great hope.

but he has a damn good start!
do you see the republicans wimping out on the budget fight?
we need a pitbull with a BAD disposition, that ain”t-ate- in-a long- spell, on a bad day!
if he sees the dems as THE enemy, and devotes himself to the battle, he has my vote.

I have a couple of reservations about him, as well.

The reason I have such a high opinion of him, however, is that he absolutely knows what the enemy is — and does not back down in confronting it.

That is what reminds me of Churchill.
