MEMBER DIARY

Why should we care about justice for Zimmerman?….after all, he’s a Dem!

What is wrong with us?  Why can’t conservatives jump on the band-wagon, follow in the footsteps of the unprincipled, hypocritical leftists and abandon Zimmerman’s cause in the name of loyalty to our party?  I mean, why should we care if he goes down in flames while being pummeled by the hatred spewing out at him from the likes of the most devout crusaders inside his own party?  What’s up with all that?

For weeks now, numerous diaries and commentaries have been published here at RedState dissecting every angle of this story.  While we know little beyond what occurred the night Zimmerman shot Martin, it has been reported that Zimmerman is a Democrat.  A Democrat!  And yet still, the overwhelming commentary here has been in defense of Zimmerman.  Most of us smell the stench of the case being used for political purposes and feel compassion for Zimmerman as he is scapegoated and lynched by the evil hatred that fuels the underbelly of the progressive movement in America.  And for that, we should feel proud.

This is what makes conservatives great.  It is what will make us triumph against the evil we are fighting.  We truly do believe in the principles we fight for and live by — principles that are timeless, colorblind and enable us to achieve excellence in everything we do.  If we were like the evil we are fighting, we would have ignored Zimmerman’s plight the moment we learned he was a Dem.  We would have gloated while we watched a man in the enemies’ camp suffer injustice and go down in flames.

But, no.  We can’t do that.  We cry out for justice for our enemy.  We see the horrors of the evil being done and we want justice to prevail and the truth to be told.  And we abhor the self-serving lies, hate-mongering bullhorns and race-baiting rabble rousers who lick their chops and drool at the chance to make headlines and a few bucks while they destroy the lives of whomever they decide to go after.

There is much debate and discussion right now about exactly how to define a conservative.  A case study on the Zimmerman story — and how conservatives came to his defense — should be considered when we define ourselves and try to explain what makes us tick.

And maybe, just maybe — when the Zimmerman case is over — we will have succeeded in rescuing many out of the enemies’ camp and seeing them run into our camp when they abandon the deceptive tactics of the leftists once and for all.

    Good job.

That conservatives stand up for justice, truth, the rule of law, and that it doesn’t matter what party you are from, or what color your skin is.

I’ve read an interesting article at Breitbart’s Big Journalism site, which begins to connect the dots of the involvement of the Obama/Holder DOJ in the Zimmerman Martin case. I do not doubt the truthfullness of this report. I’ve wondered if this secretive group of people aren’t the “Interpol” police that Obama, through an executive order, gave complete immunity to in order to operate in the US “wherever and whenever conflicts occur.”

One of the areas of the Probable Cause Affidavit, filed by SP Angela Cory, that seems to be causing a lot of heartburn to even liberal legal people, and there are many, is the completely unsubstantiated accusation that Zimmerman racially profiled Martin. At the same time, the special ivestigators who swore to and signed the document, attested to the fact that Zimmerman said “punks” and not the racial slur that has been reported by the media. Reading the opinion of a liberal lawyer, she claimed that once the investigators swore that Zimmerman did not use a racial slur, they gave up on their chances for a federal hate crime lawsuit, no matter how anyone else interprets the word used.

With the fact that the Fast and Furious scandal is still left swinging in the breeze, I have no doubt Holder would manufacture, or even worse, hide the truth behind the evidence in this case. Even if Zimmerman is in fact innocent, and was in fact acting in self defense, his freedom can be sacrificed just as easily as Brian Terry’s life was sacrificed with the Fast and Furious federal government manufactured tragedy.

From what I’m reading, in the next few days more facts about the Zimmerman Martin issue will be released. I get the feeling that the “star witness” for Martin’s parents attorney Crump, the girlfriend DeeDee, who has never been seen, never came forward on her own, only responded after Martin’s father called her, and initially refused to testify, as attested to by Atty Gen Bondi, is going to be at the heart of the new evidence. Remember, Corey relied on her story almost solely in arresting Zimmerman. She is even mentioned in the Probable Cause Affidavit.

  • westcoastpatriette

We have to come to terms with the fact that we have hoodlums in charge of the U.S. Dept. of Justice right now — and watch every move they make and expose all the corruption we see.

One thing that comforts me is that Zimmerman’s father is a retired magistrate although I do not know in what area of law he served. Also, after Zimmerman’s first attorneys came out and spoke about Zimmerman publicly (in a disparaging light) Kimberly Garfoyle made clear that she took that episode as a sign that Zimmerman was firing them and finding other counsel and that was why Zimmerman had stopped communicating with them. Hopefully, his father has good connections and helped his son get a dynamite attorney to fight back.

Let’s hope this all backfires in the faces of the bad guys.

  • Common_Cents

Yes, the left has tried GZ in the press, trying to make racial political points and feed the flames of division all for an election. There is a need to tamp that down, but there isn’t much of a reason to defend GZ when nobody knows the facts. Hannity is coming across as trying to be his defense attorney, rather than just smacking the left for their bias, and remaining neutral on the facts for justice.

  • Scope

for Zimmerman, I’ve read just in the last day or so that what was shown of their seemingly strange presser, was only the section where they seem to throw Zimmerman under the bus. I understand the presser lasted for 45 minutes, and that they in fact did slam the media for their lynching, and they did make references to this secretive group that showed up in Sanford after the incident. I’ve also read that Mark O’Mara may not have Zimmerman’s best interest at heart. I don’t know what to believe.

I saw a clip of the weasel Gov. Scott announcing his 14 panel task force to review the SYG laws, “as well as all of the Fla. gun laws on the books” today. Read that carefully, all of Fla. gun laws on the books. Meghan Kelly, who supposedly was an attorney, said that the SYG review can have an affect on the Zimmerman Martin case. So, will you please tell me how laws can be changed, mid-course, when someone has the opportunity to benefit from a particular law, that was in full force and effect at the time of the incident? Can the government now come up with new laws in order to affect a particular outcome they desire?

Sharpton is doing his work in Fla, and is using the Zimmerman Martin case as his push for the liberals dream of gun control. I wonder if Sharpton and Crump are tossing a coin to see who heads this task force.

There is another story today that Jesse Jackson has moved on to OK, in light of the 2 white guys that shot 3 black guys, with his push to challenge the OK gun laws on the books. Apparently OK also has SYG laws on the books, even though the 2 white guys have no self defense claims.

Do you notice that these challenges are taking place where ever there has been a white, or half white, on black crime has taken place.

Then move on to the case of the black lady that shot and killed a white mom of a 3 day old, and then kidnapped her 3 day old baby. Gee, I wonder if Sharpton, Jackson or Holder will rush to the defense of the white mother that was gunned down by a black lady.

Anyone who cares about the constitution, and second amendment gun rights, should be paying very close attention to this gun control push by the liberals all the way up to Obama and Holder. In order for the government to gain complete control and power over the population, they must must remove guns from society as much as possible.

  • Scope

You can’t get it any better than straight from the <a href="http://www.therightscoop.com/jesse-jackson-admits-using-trayvon-tragedy-for-anti-gun-agenda/ Horse's Mouth so to speak.

As I’ve posted elsewhere Jackson has moved on from Fla. and is now hitting Oklahoma hard to push for his, Sharpton and Holder’s anti-gun agenda.

Let Jesse Jackson himself tell you how he and the DOJ will make sacrifices of citizens who are innocent until proven guilty, no matter what it takes to do so. Watch for the next media firestorm to come out of Oklahoma, in which some have already indicated that all of the citizens in that state are racists.

This is not only an anti-gun movement, it will serve two purposes, with the call for race warfare already coming out of the Obama administration. Like Jackson said, it is the perfect storm to fit the liberal agenda.

  • xymbaline

    you’d find it pretty straightforward.

Sanford itself is expanding very little. The City Fathers have had an informal No Growth policy there for many years, and the the north side is bordered by a large lake that limits any growth in that direction.

Most of the actual expansion has occured to the South and West. Little burgs like Lake Mary have become extremely yuppie, and *very* wealthy places like Heathrow have come from nowhere.

Sanford has lost much of its productive base, and much of Sanford is now a ‘hood’ where 20 years ago it was mostly what many people call ‘redneck’.

Within a few miles in many directions is a mix of ultra-rich, very poor, redneck, manufacturing and yuppie.

Most neighborhoods have drawn in tightly, usually to protect themselves against people right next to them who are very different in class and style.

Neighborhood Watchs are common. It is so easy for people to slip from one area into another that crimes happen quickly and silently. The police cannot react fast enough, so people have learned to watch for themselves.

The neighborhood in question is not one of the upscale ones. Recently, its had a large number of robberies, a spree of a sort, and awareness was high and people were watching out for each other.

Trayvon was walking between houses, peering into windows, exactly what scouts do when they’re casing homes for vulnerabilities. If it had been a neighborhood kid taking a short cut, nothing would have happened. Instead, a strange, tall kid with gold teeth and a hood was walking through people’s yards, looking into windows. This is exactly what Neighborhood Watch people look for, so for Zimmerman to call in and report it was prudent.

The local paper, the Orlando Sentinel, published a map of the area and traced Martin’s path during the experience. Frankly, it’s not the path of someone walking back innocently from the 7-11 to the house where he was staying.

Since I wasn’t there to see what happened, I won’t comment further except to say that I find Zimmerman’s account seems most likely.

  • westcoastpatriette

to the Zimmerman Martin case It is very long and chock full of details and analysis. The author of the site has been following the case for quite a while. There are other articles written there with similar information like that was included in my link to the Breitbart article. This article includes a map of the area in the complex where the incident took place. Be prepared to spend some time reading if you are interested. It’s fascinating info.

  • xymbaline

It provides the link to the Sentinel page as well.

It would help you that aren’t in the area to know that the Orlando Sentinel has become a Southern New York Times. They first published the map as a news item. As the author in the above article notes, it engendered a long list of comments from people who know the area, were in law enforcement, and who described pretty much what I was also describing.

So the Sentinel scrubbed the map and left only a couple of comments on it, one calling Zimmerman ‘tubbo’ and claiming that the tubby black guy ran down the teenage athlete from behind, and Martin chased Zimmerman down and beat him up before dying. Just a paraphrase, you can read it for yourself.

it would take quite some time to wade through all of the info in that link. I made it just about a third of the way through, though, and already I am seeing what’s probably behind all of this even more than racism and it is the love of money. In order for Trayson’s parents to sue for damages, an arrest has to be made — not necessarily a conviction. This explains why Trayvon’s mother said she believed the shooting was an accident. Deep down, they probably know that Zimmerman’s story is true but in order to sue everyone they can think of — and this is pursuant to the SYG law — an arrest has to be made.

I watched the bond hearing today, other than what I missed on commercial breaks. One thing I am now certain of is that Mark O’Mara will be a formidable force in his defense of GZ. Cool headed, sharp, capable, calm, and on top of every dotted i and crossed t.

What was amazing was that when one of the lead detectives, working with SP Corey was on the witness stand, he so completely botched the state’s case, much much more so than the Sanford Police Dept. was accused of.

He admitted he has no evidence to prove that Zimmerman confronted Martin.

He admitted that he has no evidence that GZ didn’t in fact turn and walk back toward his truck when the dispatched said “we don’t need you to do that.”

He admitted that he had never seen the GZ medical report, O’Mara provided him with a copy of it.

He answered one way to O’Mara, and another way to cross from the prosecutor. Perjury?

O’Mara- Calm cool, collected and competent.

Prosecutor- Aggressive, confrontation, bullying, and angry.

    Malicious Prosecution, my big bet.

  • jakeofalltrades

We like the idea of a trial by jury to set the matter to rest. At the same time, arresting the victim who saved himself from being beaten to death by killing the assailant – when the self-defense evidence is strong – is unconstitutional and immoral.

  • Tbone

other side must really be a cesspool.

That prosecutor and the laying SOB on the affidavit are the ones who should be in jail.

Scott Walker should be held in high contempt for appointing that worthless, biased piece of crap.

  • westcoastpatriette

in a case like this one — where the evidence is so clearly supporting Zimmerman’s version of events — doesn’t an attorney jeopardize his own reputation and integrity by discounting the obvious evidence in favor of “allowing” a jury to decide?

  • westcoastpatriette

I watched part of it and was really impressed with how well Zimmerman maintained his composure. And was thrilled when the judge granted such low bail — a sign that the judge is not impressed with the case, either. I am predicting the charges are dropped completely in the near future.

Don’t know if you saw my above post to you where I told you I spent some time at the link you provided. I am convinced now the main purpose of this charade is so that Martin’s family can sue for damages as the SYG law states that one may not sue for civil damages unless charges have been filed — but there does not have to be a conviction. So, the Martin’s are satisfied that even if the charges are dropped they are now free to bring civil charges against every deep pocket they can get their hands on.

    What a sad joke.

I don’t know the law professor’s mind, but he has become very anti-left in hts stance regarding the o admin. and Israel and now opposes the PC version of the Trayvon Martin murder case, so maybe he is ripe for conversion to the true and right side,

  • jakeofalltrades

to believe they committed the offense.

If probable cause is debatable, then prosecutors can throw it out there and see if the judge and jury buy it. The prosecutor’s interest is protecting the best interests of society and the Constitution they swore to uphold – in the manner that, in their discretion, they think best.

Where this prosecutor is screwing up is in failing in her ethical duty to be candid with the court. It seems she withheld information about the severity of Zimmerman’s defensive wounds in an affidavit. That’s where the ethics problems are really going to happen here, as Dershowitz said today.

  • westcoastpatriette

a bizarre move to the right coming from Dershowitz. First time in my life I found myself agreeing with him when he spoke out about the sloppy Zimmerman affidavit. But that’s how outrageous this case has become. People are acting stupidly to satisfy the most radical race-baiters in the nation.

GZ’s lawyer will hopefully request an Immunity hearing. That Immunity hearing would be before the judge “alone” and no jury would be seated for that hearing. In that hearing GZ’s lawyer can bring witnesses and any other evidence he has to prove self defense, the state can do the same. It is a mini-hearing without a jury. The judge rules in that hearing on the preponderance of the evidence. GZ will have to prove that he acted in self defense, but, he will not have to prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt, it is judged on the preponderance of the evidence.

If GZ wins in a Immunity hearing, he is no longer responsible for any criminal or civil charges. The prosecution can appeal that ruling, and GZ would have to win on appeal also. If Zimmerman wins on appeal, he is completely exonerated.

Wouldn’t it be nice if jake, as an attorney, gave more lengthy explanations, covering how it would cover both the defendant, and the state case, rather than a drip here, and a drip there.

Come on Jake. Coyness in this case is why the case is where it is.

Remember the Martin parents, as well as the lawyer Crump saying that they needed an arrest. Sabrina Fulton said after the arrest, thank you God, thank you Jesus, all we wanted was an arrest, nothing more, nothing less. Why would Sabrina just concentrate on an arrest, and have no desire for a conviction? As Crump said, the arrest was only the first step in the process, but they needed to get beyond the next step, which would be an Immunity hearing. If GZ doesn’t win the Immunity hearing, and it goes to trial, GZ will in fact be eligible for a civil lawsuit by the Martin parents.

Did you see the pictures of them so angry it isn’t funny because GZ was released on bond? They probably also heard the states case collapse today.

but my understanding was that all that was necessary for someone to bring civil suit in a self-defense case was that charges be filed. But, I could be wrong on that so I will shut up.

and Trayvon Martin requires a moral society with a sense of decency.

Trayvon Martin’s family, by and through their attorney, Benjamin Crump, rejected the expression of condolence issued by George Zimmerman during his bail hearing this week. Sadly, their grieving process has stalled in anger and denial and seemingly has devolved into a mindless vengeance, fueled by their attorney and his acolytes. Will time ever grant these parents the grace and strength to consider the factors which really cost them their son’s life?
During their altercation, anyone of the blows sustained or about to be sustained by Mr. Zimmerman at the hands of Mr. Martin had the potential to render him unconscious. Mr. Zimmerman’s legally registered firearm would then have been available to Mr. Martin. Given the ferocity of Martin’s attack, there is every reasonable expectation that he would have used this weapon on Mr. Zimmerman.
Based upon their public assertions, this outcome would have been more acceptable to the parents, race hustling lawyers, anti-gun zealots and cowardly politicians* who have gone on public record to condemn Mr. Zimmerman for defending himself during the “struggle”. (*the references are too numerous to list)
Publishing the pre-adolescent pictures of Trayvon , showing a very photogenic boy, represents more than the sinister marketing tools of the grievance mongering ambulance chaser, Crump and his clients. It also represents the image of Trayvon Martin to which his parents still cling. What they are yet incapable of acknowledging, however, is that that “child” was not killed by George Zimmerman, but was rather the victim of “No_Limit_N***r ” and the perverse social pathology that spawned his identity.
All the hopes and dreams they may once have held for their son were, in fact, the victim of a culture where gangster rap, vulgarity, drugs and violence are deemed “typical” and an acceptable norm. Young Trayvon’s body had already been desecrated with indelible branding and his identity poisoned long before he ever met Mr. Zimmerman. Yet, a newspaper journalist proclaimed that the latest, more incriminating picture and verified twitter communiqu

and imagine how threatened he must feel seeing how he is being used as a pawn by various deviant groups. I believe that he was not just acting in self-defense, but that the attack by Martin occurred while Zimmerman was trying to be a good Samaritan by protecting his neighborhood from further burglaries.

I can personally relate because I am the kind of person who will intervene to prevent evil if at all possible, rather than close my eyes and ignore danger to myself or to others. I truly hope if I am right, the system will work — in spite of all the whoremongers out for Z’s blood — and he will be completely exonerated.

I do not expect Martin’s parents or the other blacks who are screaming racism to ever accept the fact that Martin was the criminal aggressor and brought his fate on himself. But that is their problem.

A Democratic state congressman from South Florida is going to try and get SYG changed. Governor Scott is looking into the gun laws, but don’t think he will do anything if he wants to be re-elected. The Lt. Governor is a black conservative Republican and she is the Committee Chairwoman. The author of the bill for SYG is also on the committee. Hopefully, this will all die down.

that’s good to hear. I am sure you have an interesting viewpoint since you live where all the action is.

it might be he was one of those self righteous bastards who feels all brave with a gun in his hand and provoked a situation that got out of his control. I actually think my scenario is more likely. Maybe that is just my cynicism or because I have met plenty such people.

Either way, we just don’t know, and he deserves his day in court.

I was encouraged when I watched the bail hearing last week. Looks like the judge in the case is not one to be intimidated by public pressure. Also, Zimmerman’s attorney looks on top of things and Zimmerman himself maintained his composure throughout the humiliating procedure.

The complete statutes explain that it will be Zimmerman who will be compensated if he has been wrongfully charged and arrested. And no criminal OR civil actions can be taken against him adter that. Can’t remember exact statutes now but I think it is contained between FS 776.012 and 776.041.

Of course that is among the REAL reasons these folks are howling over the law as written.

entry. I found the 2+ hour video of the bond hearing Saturday and watched after the fact. I agree that Mr. Zimmerman presented himself well. My heart goes out to him and his family. Attny O’Mara did well , too. Liked his handling of the investigator. Boy, talk about inconsistent testimony. Prosecutor came across as trying to compensate for poor case with sheer bombast.

I’ve read a variety of websites where the murderous vitriol and threats against Mr. Zimmerman’s well-being in or out of jail, found guilty or innocent are simply jaw dropping. While some would discount it as “just blog talk”, all it takes is one fiendishly savage person to act out the boasted “plans” of these online thugs.

The judge who hears the Immunity Hearing for Zimmerman’s affirmative defense (I’ve read that it is to be a different judge from Lester?) will hopefully realize that regardless of his or her ruling, there are those who are “looking forward to getting several new pairs of shoes and TV sets” during the staged riots afterwards.

I further pray that the judge realizes that the monetary cost of riot control and repair to damaged property is far less expensive than the cost to this nation’s founding principles if Zimmerman is not exonerated in the Immunity hearing.
