You, presumably, have a ballot of your own, and that’s where *your* vote will count.

My mother had the beginnings of Alzheimer’s in 2004 and she was home, she hated Kerry/Edwards. She called them jackasses, and said that “stupid, elderly people” would think that Bush was going to take away SS and Medicare but she knew better. I got her an absentee ballot and helped her fill in Bush/Cheney. I did what she waned to do, but we were afraid she might not do it correctly if we took her to vote.

Stop with the sympathy and honor line. The only honorable thing to do is to get Obama out of the White House, something that you could have mentioned to your mother (frequently and passionately, if you really cared about the state of our country). I’m sorry, but this election is bigger than just one person. The way you tell it, your mother got sick, and she turned from a Republican to a Democrat because she needed to place the blame on her sickness on someone, and by God, that’s something the Democrats do best. They love to exploit the sick and disabled and convince them that voting for Republicans is akin to voting for people to get sick. Your mother has bought into this hook, line, and sinker, and shame on you for encouraging her instead of gently protesting and showing her the way. Milquetoasts like you who can’t even stand up to their own mother are the reason this country is sinking faster than the Titanic. Sorry your mother is sick, but you should know better. Shame on you, and shame on that sorry shiteheap of a state you call home.

Funny. I read your post earlier today and just now was reading “Dear Prudie” on Slate. A young woman writes that her mother was in the exact same position but voted her parents’ ballots for them with her preference even though it was not theirs. And they’re in Ohio! The writer did not specify, but I’m guessing mom’s a democrat and the grandparents are Republicans. Prudie said mom broke the law but to let it go. I’m betting if it were the other way around Prudie would have said to have mom arrested and the ballots invalidated.
