The Watercooler ~ RedState’s Daily Open Thread

As of this writing, Christopher Dorner — the man who set out to murder as many policemen as he could entrap — has eluded capture. Hopefully, my neighborhood will be a little quieter today. As I mentioned in yesterday’s open thread, the ambush of two Riverside police officers occurred just around the corner and a few blocks away from my house. The police kept the street cordoned off all day and every news channel had set up shop in the parking lots of businesses surrounding the location of the shooting. A Catholic church nearby allowed Fox News to set up their equipment in front of the church.

My town is sad. They have not released the names of the officers who were shot — one of whom died — out of concern for the family member’s safety. The killer has vowed to harm the families of as many policemen as he could. Thank God it looks like the second officer will survive the ambush. A prayer vigil was held at city hall last night.

    It’s already snowing and accumulating in parts of Massachusetts. Visibility is down to about 200 feet right now. Nemo is going to be a major rager.

    I’m quite astonished that the national media is being very quiet about this guy Dorner.  I only hear brief reports of his latest escapade (evading capture at Bear Lake, CA), and it’s on the much-ballyhooed talk radio programs that you get the juicier details of such things as his manifesto and the fact that he had been stepping on a lot of toes during his tenure as a police officer.  The worst thing that I heard was from a caller to Sean Hannity’s program from Virginia, a former LAPD officer who must’ve been reading the online blogs and saw how many of the left-wing cranks were starting to line up behind Dorner and promote such things as a second round of “Rodney King” riots in LA.

    As some of the talkers have asked, what would the media have been doing if Dorner’s manifesto was praising conservatives?  I get the feeling that only the Left has the really violent crazies.  Whatever extremism exists on the Right usually keeps itself well-isolated, or is pretty much under control.

      He’s too threatening to the left in terms of not wanting the public to know that one of their own is behind the trigger. Anything or anyone that exposes their hypocrisy is to be marginalized. Dorner is the classic epitome of a leftist hypocrite.
