MEMBER DIARY

The Watercooler ~ Open Thread

Okay, so now that I’ve been doing the Daily Open Thread for ten days (started it on Feb. 1), I am considering a schedule change. I have no control over the way Disqus moves things around and, basically, from what I have observed they “rate” diaries based mainly on how many comments they receive. I’m not even sure they consider stars in their ratings but, in any event, after a diary receives “enough”, “some”, “more than the average” comments ???, it gets bumped back up to the top of the “All” column and/or actually moved over to the “Popular” column. If that sounds confusing, it is.

Bottom line, I think there are too many of them around and I think I’ll try posting them just Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week. My main idea was to provide access to an open thread every day and since they usually receive enough comments to keep them around more than a day, I won’t need to do one every day. I am also considering varying the title each day so specific threads can be more easily identified.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

In the meantime, the saga continues and cop-killer Christopher Dorner still eludes capture. As of yesterday, the LAPD is now offering a million dollar reward for anyone who provides info leading to Dorner’s capture. Also, political correctness has infected the case and for reasons not fully understood, the LAPD is stating they are going to reopen the employment dispute case that led to Dorner’s termination from the police department. It seems a lot of peeps are speaking out in Dorner’s defense and suspect that there may be some truth to his claims that his firing was in retaliation for his attempts to whistle-blow regarding police brutality and racism in the department. This sends a terrible message. Perhaps they are hoping this gesture would appease Dorner and bring about his surrender. Sounds more like desperation and political correctness run amok to me.

On a related note, they have made public the name of the officer killed by Dorner in Riverside, CA. His name is Michael Crain. The thirty-three year old was an eleven year veteran of the Riverside Police Department and was training the other officer-in-training the night they were shot. He is married with two children. Services for Crain will be held Wednesday. Pray for the protection of his family.

If you haven’t had a chance to listen to Dr. Benjamin Carson’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, Moe put it up yesterday on the front page and it’s worth thirty minutes of your time. It was delightful to see another black man fearlessly and respectfully address some of Obama’s most blatant ruinous policies with Obama sitting right there listening.

I pulled up another great Margaret Becker song to go with the scripture today. Too many people are afraid of God and think they can’t qualify to talk to him or be his friend. Not true.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

Have a great day.

This issue of Imprimis — a Hillsdale College publication — has been sitting in my inbox for several weeks and I just got a chance to read it. It is a sobering read, written by a recent Yale graduate titled, “Man, Sex, God and Yale,” giving a view of how far moral relativism has progressed in what used to be one of our greatest teaching institutions. This will enrage you. http://www.hillsdale.edu/news/imprimis/archive/issue.asp?year=2013&month=01

Yeah, well, at least when the Muslims take over the liberals will be the first to go.

I posted this on another thread…but this is just too good to be missed.

This is awesome. One more excellent example of a low-information voter (which is actually kind of scary……). Passing this one on – definitely “too good to be missed”!

That was hilarious. Wonder what newspaper that surfaced in? My local paper won’t publish op eds or letters to the editor without a name and city attached.

        They
        live among us!

        From the Carteret
        County News-Times

        (Editor’s note: The
following Letter to the Editor, published in the Jan. 23 edition, has
gone viral on the Web after a reader linked it to a Fox News Facebook
page. It had received more than 4,000 comments and been shared more than
        12,000 times by Tuesday morning.)

Well..there you go WCP…that is where it came from

          I used to say
          “They exist,
          They walk among us,
          and they breed”
Now I’ll have to add a fourth
          “… walk among us,
          They breed,
          and they vote”

There might be hope…real hope. Did you ever think about the fact that Progressives are big on abortion. That being said…it might take time, but they and their ideology will die on the vine.

Great Water cooler subject. Did everyone see the fight between ole Ron Paul and his minions over at Ronpauldotcom? Seems their messiah is going after them to take away their site, the one that has around 175000 members and who vigorously supported him for years. They offered him ronpauldotorg and or would sell him the current site and its member list for 250,000, but he refused.

You should see the wailing and gnashing of teeth over their considering his betrayal, his use of the UN to take their site considering how he railed against them and anyone here using them to decide law, and how is is now retired so he no longer needs them and is so willing to take from them their creation and time and financial investment. It is poetic.

Seeing the turmoil in the nut crowd and seeing their messiah’s hypocrisy once more is better than any entertainment I could conceive of.

    • westcoastpatriette

Oh, my gosh, PTTP. The Watercooler’s the comic section today. Hadn’t heard about that mess at all. Wars everywhere on every front. Poor Ron. What’s a good libertarian to do?

      • PowerToThePeople

I guess be a hypocrite as usual. I just find it funny how RP railed against the UN, railed against going to the UN to decide American law and cases, then he does it himself. I also find it funny that he always preached about courts and government staying out of personal property issues, then he uses them to take something he does not own from another who does. Sort of also blows out his constant decrees about how much he supports ownership.

But I love the fact that he is bending over his own supporters, you know now that they are no longer helpful to him, and giving it to them real good after all their years of support for him. The fact they had to deal with my insults for years everywhere they went should make him be tender to them, not rape em.

But they get what is coming to them, they supported one of the most arrogant lying anti American POS in the last 20 years, what did they think he would do to them once they were of no more use.

PP and WCP…now…and now is the time to capitalize on this. We can’t do anything about Rove/elitest/old guard republicans/and RINO’s….but we can find common ground with the Libertarians and Conservatives to put up a firewall to stop what is going on in DC. I know there are differences..and being a Conservative, I want to see some of our principles adopted. Under Boehner/McConnell they won’t be. However, take these guys while they are licking their wounds and find base principles and we might be able to get some good solid work done.

          • westcoastpatriette

I’m sure we might be able to pick up a few of them but my guess is the majority of them will look for another odd ball. Most libertarians that I have known major on minors and allow minors to divide us.

          • rightlane1111

When the TPM was going strong…I traveled down to Atlanta…I am a member on another Conservative Chatboard…so we all got to be friends, exchanging ideas, etc. when we attended that TPM. Anyway…long story short..one of the three was a Libertarian. We had a lot in common. I’m not one for letting the defense of this nation go and he agreed…to a point. Quite frankly…under Obama, I agree with him even more (leading from behind-Libya). I’m against pot smoking…as this would REALLY feed Obama. He was also. We are both heavy state’s rights people. Against one mega DC government. We have to find someway to get these RINO’s out of the majority and get some Conservatives in. Let’s see was Rand Paul and Rubio have to say. Oddly…they are BOTH rebutting Obama’s SOTU.

Christopher Dorner is in a gun battle with police in a remote mountain area about twenty miles down the mountain from Big Bear Lake — the mountain town where his truck was found last Thursday. Two officers have been injured but the extent of their injuries is not known. Dorner broke into a cabin of an elderly couple, tied them up and stole their truck. More info coming.
