The Watercooler ~ Monday’s Open Thread

Conservative bloggers, activists and political pundits frequently bemoan the blatant bias that we see every day in the media. Indeed, it has become so glaringly obvious that only the most dense person would not recognize it. The left has turned the field of journalism into a mockery. No standards, no truth, no-holds-barred. All’s fair in their tacit agreement to use their broadcasting power to defeat anyone who stands in the way of implementing the left’s agenda for America.

The most recent example came on the heels of Senator Marco Rubio’s State of the Union speech when he had the audacity to need a drink of water. How dare he commit such a faux pas. The left-wing propaganda machine played it and replayed it in its predictable attempts to make Rubio look like an incompetent bumbler.

What to do about it? Even the soft-spoken Dr. Benjamin Carson mentioned it in follow-up interviews he conducted after his much-watched speech at the National Prayer Breakfast. In response to his critics who tried to shame him for daring to give a speech that challenged President Obama’s vision for the country at a prayer breakfast, he reminded everyone that Obama is not a monarch and that our government is here to serve us not the other way around.

Dr. Carson’s answer to what to do about the political correctness police is to speak up. The left’s tactics are designed to silence us and only allow their side to be heard (because they’re so tolerant and all). And we must resist that pressure and speak out no matter where we are or who is present.

Good advice. I would like to see the pretense dropped and less cooperation with left-wing journalists altogether. They need to be seen for what they are — our enemies. Why does our side continue to walk into their camp knowing every question and comment will be laced with propaganda and innuendo designed to destroy, belittle and marginalize us? At some point, we must recognize that this is stupid on our part.

Well, that’s enough for now. I’ll leave you with some good music by Jon Gibson to enjoy on this President’s Day Monday or, more accurately, Washington’s Birthday. (See the link for Mike DeVine’s history of how the name has been changed unofficially.)

Have a great week.

McCain and Graham are ready to cave on the Hagel nomination. They signaled their willingness to do so on the Sunday shows.

I don’t get it, kipling. Why would those two come out publicly criticizing those on our side who are trying to stop the Hagel nomination? I mean, I know they are establishment know-it-alls, but they seem clueless as to how humiliating and demoralizing it is to criticize their own party members in public. Just stupid. Makes them look like self-serving fools who enjoy feeding into the discord in our own party.

      • kipling

They are the old bulls of the party and they want the newcomers to learn their place. They care little for anyone or anything but themselves. Their willingness to slam their own gets them invited to the talk shows and praised in the media.

All the more reason for a mandatory retirement age and term limits for our Senators and Representatives, then.

They never intended to block his nomination, they just wanted to bust his onions.

That’s why I think the whole thing about pushing for a filibuster is a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing, which gains the Republicans nothing.

      Bad cost/benefit analysis.

Isn’t Graham up for re-election in 2014? Might he be worried about a primary challenger?

        • kipling

Graham has to keep an eye out for a conservative challenger. Therefore, he has to at least sound conservative at some point.

Happy Birthday, Mr President. You served us well and set an example none can match. You told us in FAREWELL ADDRESS that a republic works only if there is a moral peple since self government is a rersponsible task. US was an early experiement and no one really knew how it would work.

    Second,

Rubio is targeted for media hits to change the subject from his biography as a self made man and from the substance of his messages about limited government and economic growth. Media will not take on Rubio on substance so demean him with straw points.
In a free republic a press holds the powerful to scruitny. MSM today are in the tank for DNC and serve as its mouthpiece so there is a void for media reporting that is honest and widespread.

We need to get some clout in media and that means rich donors who share millions in ads should buy some influential media outlets— national. state and local TV, papers, online and print.

Break the Liberal monoply passing off as news.

It is not much better in Michigan. I just filled up for $3.95.

What is so magical about limiting the number of rounds in a magazine? I am guessing that most gun deaths occur about one at a time or in relatively small numbers where the magazine limitations will have no effect. I would be curious to see the stats on this.

And do you think anyone is going to feel any better the next time a mass shooting occurs, but there are only 15 dead instead of 20? They will then be calling for limiting the rounds to 5 per magazine, and when we have 5 dead it will be less. Of course, that is assuming the killer doesn’t have more than one magazine on hand.

Ben Carson was excellent on the Hannity special shown this weekend, even better than the prayer breakfast speech. I hope he finds some good conservative candidates to support and uses his down-to-earth common-sense conservative speaking ability to promote them.
