The Watercooler ~ Rover Barks & DeVore Sparks in California

The California Republican Party held its convention in Sacramento over the weekend and, ironically, two of its top speakers were from Texas.

Former California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore — who left the state and moved to Texas in 2011 — spoke at a banquet Friday night and Karl the “Rover” dominated the convention with speeches and workshops admonishing the beleaguered party delegates to “get off their ass” and rebuild the party.

Cringe.

For more detail on all-things-from-a-conservative-perspective in California, this is a great website. And for an even more in-depth analysis of Calfornia’s economic malaise, see this Wall Street Journal piece.

We desperately need new leadership in California.

The Watercooler is always an open thread.

IT’S JEB TIME: So, the GOP elite thinks Rubio did not have enough ‘gravitas’ when he gave the rebuttal to the SOTU. That means it is time for the GOP establishment to throw Jeb Bush into the mix. Hey – he even has a latino wife!! I hope Jeb’s sudden appearance is obvious to you all. [I personally like Jeb, and would be OK voting for him. Unfortunately, I think he has a HEAVY establishment cross to bear.]

We need something. I read that WSJ piece earlier and was shocked at the Demographics. Republicans have surrendered the big blue cities and the blue states,

I’m like you, WmCraig — I am stuck here due to circumstances beyond my control and it is really hard to deal with all of this. I think that’s why I focus so much on federal issues because this state seems impenetrable right now.

doesn’t Michael Reagan still live there, what about Barry Goldwater Jr.? I mean they’re getting up there in years but part of the problem is the GOP’s lack of credible candidates, they haven’t had a good statewide candidate since Pete Wilson, most of their candidates are self funded, heck Diane Feinstein didn’t even deign to hold a debate with her GOP opponent last November, do you see her doing that to anybody with some sort of National Recognition?
