The Watercooler ~ The Three Stooges

The Senate Comedy Show is getting more bizarre by the day.

I’m still bordering on speechless over the tacky, inexplicable (really) behavior coming from John McCain and Lindsey Graham. They could not look more like complete stooges right now.

Sorry to those of you who think McCain’s service to the country earns him unquestionable respect and honor, but, he could not be acting more like a self-serving, opportunistic buffoon than he is now.

He must be losing his mind.

Once again, those of us on the outside watching this charade cannot comprehend what McCain and Graham could be thinking. Not only are they betraying the Republican Party, they are insulting everyone who is watching them behave like brash know-it-alls — with such superior wisdom that no one will notice they are publicly undermining and stabbing in the back the very men who they should be mentoring and helping to get their footing. Even the Democrats must be groaning at the repugnance of such public displays of betrayal.

They should both be deeply ashamed. But, obviously, they are incapable of seeing how despicable their conduct is — which makes it even more despicable.

Then, there was the third stooge — Harry Reid. Standing on the Senate floor sounding and looking like a zombie, he mumbled into a microphone that he would not interfere with the filibuster that Rand was employing, because, after all, “I’ve done it myself before,” (paraphrased quote).

Think of it. Harry Reid mustered together and demonstrated more respect for Senator Paul than McCain and Graham put together.

Go figure.

I tried to find a nice little ditty to take into the weekend. Something to get our minds off of such disappointing leadership.

The Watercooler is always an open thread.

Fox News Poll: Majority supports use of drones

    Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/03/04/fox-news-poll-majority-supports-use-drones/#ixzz2MxwpPFH5

    comprehend.

    • westcoastpatriette

You’re missing the main point. Which has nothing to do with drones.

    • plumely

Awhile back in our history the majority supported lynching black people. This is a nation of laws not a nation of men and especially not a nation that is governed by polls. So, I will respectfully say I don’t give a rat’s ass if the majority supports the use of drones.

      • funwithknives

Our country has performed more than it’s share of ‘boners’ in it’s lifetime , including :
        The Syphilis Experiments
Imprisoning the Neisei in WW 2
Dred Scott, Black Codes and similar
Not assisting [in vast detail] the Jews of Europe in WW 2
Ask a Native American for a list of their particulars.
The Anti-Asian Immigration Act (paraphrased) [look it up]
All this gar-bage’ was done with [pick a couple] public knowledge, acceptance or willful blindness.
Combine that with what passes for an informed public nowadays, [see: public education] and suddenly Polling just does not look so awfully smart as a personal guidepost.
Try a little ditty I use and have never, ever lost a bet on. Ask the party in question if The Constitution ‘gives’ them their rights , or if they come from ‘another source’, and make sure ‘that’ is the way you phrase it.
[This works really well when Progressives are in the mix]
I just bet beer money and i drink for free virtually each time I do this.
Follow it up by asking them to point out the word ‘Democracy’
[i e :Mob Rule] in The Constitution.
        {Bartender! Another round!]
…are these the Poll Answerers we’re supposed to be influenced by ?

        • funwithknives

‘plumely’, I hit the wrong ‘reply’ button.
The above is meant for ‘sonicfilter’
[This is spelled OOPS, in short form...]

          • plumely

            no worries.

    • lineholder

Do you believe that under our legal system via rule of law we have the right to a fair trial and to be considered innocent until proven guilty?

Or do you believe that we live under the rule of men in positions of political power who can act as judge and jury on a whim and make use of that political power for the purpose of utilizing tools, such as drones, to amount on attack on Americans on American soil?

    • Finrod

I’d bet you money that if the poll asked “Does the President of the United States have the unlimited right to kill anyone in the country at any time?” that there wouldn’t be a majority in favor.

    • TMLutas

The Paul filibuster question was asked in the Fox poll. By a margin of 50-45, respondents agreed with Sen Paul. Please don’t try to pull a fast one. Some of us actually do read the links.

      • westcoastpatriette

Good catch. I found his post so irritating, I didn’t read the link. My diary’s emphasis was on betrayal by leadership rather than the specifics of what Paul’s filibuster addressed. Even if McCain and Graham disagreed with Paul, they should not have aired those disagreements publicly and with such disrespect toward him.

Cuomo has increased minimum wage in NY to $9.00 per hour.
    http://www.bizjournals.com/albany/blog/insider/2013/03/minimum-wage-hike-sails-through-ny.html

Number of people in NY making minimum wage goes up (of course) while average income decreases.

    • keepcoolwithcoolidge

And unemployment will go up now too.

  • bobmark

I am going to start referring to those two as Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum!

IMHO their motivation was to protect the establishment old dog turf. Mad at RP for not “checking” with them first, they are the foreign policy experts after all /sarc.
McConnell coming to join in is the one who surprised me.

    • westcoastpatriette

Oh, yeah. Forgot about McConnell. Certainly, he deserves credit where credit is due.

I think the old dogs are quite disoriented and don’t know what to do with such original thinkers like Paul, Cruz, Lee, etc.

    • Finrod

I think McConnell only joined in because Brit Hume called him out on twitter.

    • gmat

McCain and Graham belong to a school of foreign policy which has worked diligently (and successfully) to keep people with Rand Paul’s FP views on the fringes.

He’s not just threatening their turf. He’s a threat to expand the mainstream FP conversation to places from whence it may not return.

BLS reports 7.7% unemployment rate for February, and it’s terrible news. Multiple jobholders increased a record 340K, full-time workers declined 77K, part-time workers increased 102K, the participation rate fell to 63.5% and January’s job numbers were revised down 38K. Such is the economic reality of “recovery” under the Obama Administration.

    • bobmark

I have my own “leading economic indicator” and I’m pretty sure it’s close to 100% accurate: Men between 30 and 60 in the store/mall on weekday afternoons.

What people aren’t thinking about is that one of the worst long term affect of this miserable economic situation is that men in their prime earning years who aren’t working aren’t saving for retirement and are going to be an even worse drain on the system as they hit 65- 67.5 or whatever it is when they get there.

      • Sir Aaron

So why are you at the mall on a weekday then?

  • westcoastpatriette

Obama’s bizarre sequestering priorities: (From the desk of ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow.)

With the Sequester, the Obama Administration is taking $27 million from the 9/11 Victim’s Fund even while it gives Muslim Brotherhood-led Egypt a cash infusion of $250million.

In other words, the American victims of terrorism are making financial sacrifices while the ideological fathers of modern jihad are getting an economic stimulus – at U.S. taxpayer expense.

It’s hard to imagine a more foolish and hurtful use of taxpayer money.

Jihadists should get nothing from American taxpayers.

Egypt’s Christians are begging our government not to support their oppressors.

Here’s another one, WCP….60K border patrol being furloughed.
      http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/07/politics/customs-furloughs/index.html

I would say that the Obama admin is making cuts where it will hurt Americans, but there could be leeway in the agency that I’m not aware of. I’d love to see the agency meet duties as scheduled. Big Sis is already handing out warnings about customs delays, etc. And given that they are releasing illegal criminals…don’t see why they just don’t cut ICE out altogether.

      • westcoastpatriette

It’s surreal living under Obama madness. A president who takes pleasure in punishing Americans and making them suffer. Who’da thunk it?

        • WmCraig

I lived under Johnson, and Carter.

    • WmCraig

This should be one of the top three talking points for the News shows tomorrow.

      1. Obama had to be forced to admit he would not use drones to attack citizens in this country, how stupid is that? How hard would it have been to say “it would never happen”.
2, This lack of transparency about what he is doing, who he choses to kill and why. I may not agree with Rand Paul’s libertarian anti-war sentiments, but we all agree that there is something disconcerting about all this secrecy, and his coy answer that “I have yet but I might” when asked about drone attacks on American in this country.

      3. If Obama is really representing the people of this country he would use that 250 million dollars you want to give to Egypt to do some nation building here at home. Sure that is great for building schools and factories and infrastructure here at home. Obama has to make some cuts. So who is more important, Egypt or hometown. Actions speak louder then words. After weeks of warnings of dire consequences it is irresponsible to spend that much money before we know if it will be needed to feed our poor, shelter our homeless, or protect our citizens. Unless of course Obama knows that all his predictions where lies.

    Other types of news….
Heard about the anti-Semitic, anti-American, pro-Hitler, pro-9/11 Muslim female who was going to be honored by M Obama and John Kerry with the Women of Courage award?

      Excellent.

  • WmCraig

John McCain is a bully and a tyrant of inestimable incompetence whose only claim to fame is his ability fail catastrophically, to crash and burn, yet to walk away, however slowly, from every disaster he masterminds or presides over.

Attacking the young, vibrant, dedicated Republicans will hopefully be McCain’s last disaster, his last opportunity to take down those who he is supposed to serve. Now it is time for McCain to walk away permanently , and let those that know how to win take over responsibility for this fight.

Or maybe we need to disown him. It isn’t like he is an ally.
