The Watercooler ~ Don’t Go Wobbly Now, Conservatives

Watching Chris Wallace’s Fox News Sunday show yesterday morning was a dismal experience. If you can get through the hulu commercials, it is well worth your time to watch if you missed it.

Especially, the second section (starting at 15:30 minutes in). Wallace juxtaposed Matt Kibbe — founder of Freedom Works and a strong Tea Party conservative — against Steve LaTourette — former congressman, founder of the newly formed Republican Main Street Partnership and another establishment Republican, who could not hide his contempt for Matt Kibbe during the interview.

The third segment consisted of Wallace’s Panel discussion and the Republicans on the panel — Bill Kristol, Nina Easton and Karl Rove — also had a hard time hiding their contempt for the Tea Party conservatives who are shaking up the status quo. While I watched with amazement and disgust, their inability to see that what is taking place is great for conservatives and the party, exposed just how threatened they are by all the change taking place. I also realized this is what victory will look like for us for a while longer — what we see as victories, they view with contempt.

Conservatives must stand strong like never before. The old guard is going to have to get used to new ideas and having their failed views not go unchallenged. In the meantime, it is an ugly sight to watch.

Matt Kibbe was a lone man standing strong amongst all of them.

The Watercooler is always an open thread.

In light of the uproar over the Senator Portman diary, I ran across a quote I thought you might enjoy.

“Defend the Bible? Would you defend a lion? Loose him; and let him go!” – Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892)

It seems that our lion created quite a stir. I wanted to give a special thanks to management (esp. streiff) who promoted it and then defended it on Twitter and in the comments. I know Erick Erickson caught hell on Twitter but remained firm on the Word of God. So did several others. I also wanted to thank all of those who defended the diary in the comments. It was a good fellowship fighting together. I saw a lot of hope in that.

Yes, it is gratifying to see so many of us stand strong together and I always appreciate Bill S and streiff’s total commitment to loosing the Bible lion and letting him go. I’m not on twitter so I missed the attacks against Erick. Darn. But, well done to everyone who joined in the fight.

I am not on Twitter either but was still able to view the tweets (and some twits) through the responses.

The key to such things is not caring what the twits on Twitter think.

Now that I agree with. :)

Saw FN Sunday – difficult to stay with it this week without gritting my teeth more than usual. Karl Rove’s nasty comment at the end of the segment about Sarah Palin leaving elected office was totally uncalled for and seemed very petty and self-serving. Even Chris Wallace seemed a little taken aback when he said it. That man needs to go away. Fox News should consider making Karl scarce or they are going to lose viewers.

    • Jim_Riggs

No one would like to see Karl Rove go away more than me but what he said wasn’t wrong. She did quit in the middle of her term.

Come to think of it, they can both go away as far as I’m concerned.

      • cbartlett

You are technically correct and you are free to not agree with Palin’s reasons to leave the governor’s office like she did (although I happen to think she did the right thing, under the circumstances), but it was completely out of place for Rove to bring that up when he did. It looked like it was coming out of left field – added nothing to the conversation or the point that was being made at the time. It just made Karl look like a petchulant child trying to make himself look bigger and badder. Come to think of it, there are an awful lot of establishment Republicans doing that these days…….

People like Rove, Kristol, and the rest of that panel are on the outs. I don’t even sweat them anymore. Look toward the true spokesmen of our party which is Rand Paul and Ted Cruz and the others in the Republican Fight Club.

Here is an excellent series of articles written by ex-California assemblyman and senator, Ray Haynes, on how Californians can win ascendancy in CA politics again.
