The Watercooler ~ Random Thoughts Half-Baked

Please bear with me as I try to get my rhythm down with these open threads. I’m not used to “writing on demand” so to speak, and I quickly realized that doing one every day was too much. You know, familiarity breeds contempt and drains creativity. I work best when naturally inspired and find it hard to produce on demand. So, I’m playing around with | Read More »

    The Watercooler ~ Open Thread

A very courageous sixteen-year-old pregnant teen in Texas won her battle to prevent her parents from forcing her to abort her baby. It seems after all the publicity about the case, her parents backed down and agreed to allow their daughter to give birth to the child. One of the conditions of the agreement is that the daughter will marry the sixteen-year-old father of the | Read More »

The Watercooler ~ Monday’s Open Thread

Conservative bloggers, activists and political pundits frequently bemoan the blatant bias that we see every day in the media. Indeed, it has become so glaringly obvious that only the most dense person would not recognize it. The left has turned the field of journalism into a mockery. No standards, no truth, no-holds-barred. All’s fair in their tacit agreement to use their broadcasting power to defeat | Read More »

The Watercooler ~ Friday’s Open Thread

~ Promoted from the Diaries. Thank you Westcoastpatriette for providing these informative open threads to the community. – Aaron Gardner

The local television stations broadcast the funeral of Riverside Police Officer Michael Crain — one of the officers whose life was cut short by crazed ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner — in its entirety on Wednesday.

It was stunning. There was more than 8,000 people in attendance, 4,000 of whom were uniformed police officers from around the state and some from out of state. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Governor Jerry Brown were also in attendance.

I did not watch the President’s State of the Union address last night. I am more than tired of being preached at, talked down to and manipulated with double-speak. Obama sees his key strength as a community “organizer” so, more than any modern-day president, he uses the television nearly every day to spew his propaganda at us. I generally think that Obama’s words are nothing | Read More »

Breaking: Police Engaged in Gun Battle With Christopher Dorner

Nearly every station is covering the battle. It is not clear how the shoot-out began or how the police located Dorner, but reports are that the battle is taking place in a remote area of the San Bernardino Mountains called Angelus Oaks. It is about twenty miles away from the area where Dorner’s truck was found in Big Bear Lake. Reports are that Dorner broke | Read More »

    The Watercooler ~ Open Thread

Okay, so now that I’ve been doing the Daily Open Thread for ten days (started it on Feb. 1), I am considering a schedule change. I have no control over the way Disqus moves things around and, basically, from what I have observed they “rate” diaries based mainly on how many comments they receive. I’m not even sure they consider stars in their ratings but, | Read More »

Not much to comment on today. Christopher Dorner is still at-large and keeping a lot of policemen and their families on edge. Politically, a malaise seems to be setting in as Americans lose interest and trust in the leaders they sent to Washington. Same faces, same power-structure, little hope that they will do anything that helps the country. On the Democratic side, the One has | Read More »

Today is day three of the massive manhunt for Christopher Dorner — the enraged cop-killer. As previously noted, this case literally hit close to home for me when Dorner took out his rage on two police officers just a few blocks from my home in Riverside, CA. You can read more about day one and two here and here. As of the latest reports, the | Read More »

As of this writing, Christopher Dorner — the man who set out to murder as many policemen as he could entrap — has eluded capture. Hopefully, my neighborhood will be a little quieter today. As I mentioned in yesterday’s open thread, the ambush of two Riverside police officers occurred just around the corner and a few blocks away from my house. The police kept the | Read More »
