The Obamacare bills in Congress are a clear and present danger to the life, liberty and prosperity of Americans. That’s why I call the Waxman House bill the “Destroy American Freedom Act” and urge everyone to learn about how horrible these bills are. The healthcare ‘reform’ engine is based on myths like the myth of 46 million uninsured, but the lies are getting exposed and the Mask is off with this Rube Goldberg bureaucratic monstrosity. These ObamaCare bills could one day literally kill people.
Here are Ten Ways Obamacare will kill things we hold dear:
1. It kills jobs: It contains small business mandates and higher taxes, including an 8% payroll tax on businesses that don’t offer health insurance, that will make businesses shed jobs and crush a weak employment situation.Previous health care tax hikes have already killed jobs and this will be even worse.
2. It kills choice: choice of employers, employees, self-employed, health providers, hospitals, all will have their choices reduced and eliminated by the bureaucratic morass created by the Federal program. Malkin calls it “The Death of Choice.”
3. It kills innovation.
4. It literally kills via inevitable rationing, which has caused suffering in other ’single-payer’ countries and which Obama has chillingly justified. See “Health rations and you” for a satiric glimpse of the future.
5. It kills productive Americans through higher taxes, pushing top effective tax rates well above 50% in some states, and taxing those who dare to go without expensive mandated health insurance. Is the solution to the uninsured to tax 8 million Americans without health insurance? Even the Washington Post is skeptical of these massive tax hikes.
6. It kills fiscal responsibility: With $1 trillion over ten years and a true cost of $4 trillion, Obamacare ramps up a new $200 billion/year entitlement program that hurtles the Federal Government ever faster to bankruptcy. Claims that it would save long-term health costs are refuted by CBO; it saves no money but adds costs to the Government.
7. It will kill state Government budgets by forcing higher Medicaid costs on states. Says TPPF: It “would hijack Texas’ state budget as part of its government takeover of our health care system” to the tune of $4 billion a year in Texas alone.
8. Over the long-term, it will kill private sector health insurance: The Govt-run health insurance scheme will lead to destruction of private health insurance as the rules and subsidies make it impossible for private health insurance to function in true market-oriented way. It will destroy private health insurance and lead to single-payer.
9. It kills quality care by doctors, bureaucratizing the entire system and cutting quality to cut costs.
10. It kills our freedom: It forbids individual private health insurance outside ‘exchanges’ that are set up to reduce choice in health insurance by channelling people into public care (see #8) - “Individual health insurance coverage that is not grandfathered health insurance coverage under subsection (a) may only be offered on or after the first day of Y1 as an Exchange-participating health benefits plan”; it punishes opting out of health insurance; it outlaws health insurance that doesnt meet burdensome Federal guidelines.
This bill outlaws giving someone a job and only paying a wage for that job. As stated here: “If the government purports to deprive me of my right to contract with a doctor to provide me or my family with healthcare at a price I am freely willing to pay and the doctor is freely willing to accept, that is an act of tyranny warranting open rebellion.”
Ultimately, this bill will kill the health industry as we know it, sending America in a direction where we have fewer rights and choices than even people in socialized healthcare countries. Not that the status quo is great, as both the current system and more government intervention suffer from the same lack of market fundamentals: Little direct-pay natural price controls, barriers to competition, high litigation and regulation costs, massive cost-shifting, excessive system complexity, and not enough consumer responsible and choice. Everything bad about the current system will get worse under ObamaCare. There is an alternative to this nightmare: Put consumers back in control and in responsibility for health care spending.
Stopping this bill may be the last chance we get at having a choice over our healthcare.

civil_truth Friday, July 17th at 12:31AM EDT (link)Good set of points here.
I would quibble with #8, though: this bill will
over the long-termvery quickly eliminate private-sector insurance as the proposed rules essentially make it impossible following passage for an insurance company to properly assess and hedge against risk - and if you thereby can’t price your product, you can’t operate an insurance company. And Rightly So!
Source needed on ObamaCare destroying private ins
Freedoms Truth Friday, July 17th at 12:54AM EDT (link)Any source for that assertion? I would agree with you, but only want to make a statement that is backed up by detail. Thanks!
It’s very clear the ultimate goal and outcome for ObamaCare is a Canada-style/ Brit-NHS style single-payer monstrosity, and the leftists are bold enough to make silly claims that it aint that bad. The h*ll it aint. See #3, and the second link on the price people pay for socialist rationing.

I was reasoning from the information on restrictions
civil_truth Friday, July 17th at 2:02AM EDT (link)Based on earlier explication of the appropriate provisions of the law in this RS diary:
The Sec. 102 “promise” to let you keep your existing health coverage. You didn’t expect them to let you keep it forever, did you?
If starting in 2013 the government mandates the conditions you must cover and insists that you cover all partcipants at the same price regardless of preexisting conditions, prevents you adding new customers, makes it attractive for employee groups to leave for the gov’t plan, and will not allow you to otherwise change your plan or you lose the people, then 1) all your prior risk models and customer experience go out the window; 2) you can’t predict your risk pool because employee groups or former employees may leave at any time; 3) you will besubject to additional taxation that may change at any time by executive fiat; 4) in any event, your company will be forced to close shop in 2018 when the sunset clauses go into effect.
This is just for starters. Now tell me how can you rationally offer health insurance under those conditions, especially since your likelihood of losses is high and the return on investment has a limited life span.
It would seem that a rational choice for insurance companies would be to just close up shop now while they still have equity left to distribute the shareholders, or at least start a phase-out process in preparation for shutting down in 2013. Especially since a closer reading will probably reveal that there are likely to be all sorts of other booby traps that may get sprung, even before 2013.
And Rightly So!
Excellent points on the ObamaCare regs
Freedoms Truth Friday, July 17th at 11:49AM EDT (link)ObamaCare will kill the private health insurance industry Anaconda-style, squeezing out the market until it suffocates.

You forgot some points
conservativediehard Friday, July 17th at 12:49AM EDT (link)1) Obama will probably hire dumber doctors and nurses because once the profession isn’t as profitable smart kids will want to be investment bankers instead of doctors, so we’ll have more C-students thinking they can fix people up.
2) It’ll promote certain diseases that the government plans don’t have to cover.
3) It will make more people quit their jobs because now they can get health care without working for it. They’ll stay home, where they’ll get fat and lazy and die of diabetes.
4) Illegal immigration will get worse because more Mexicans will come up North to get free healthcare and in the process spread diseases like leprosy (this is a subset of point 2).
5) Moral hazard: if people know the govt will cover them regardless of their diseases, they’ll be less careful about getting STDs and drink foul water.
This list needs some significant tweaking
civil_truth Friday, July 17th at 2:20AM EDT (link)1) I’m not sure there’s a lot of overlap between finance and medicine in terms of the kinds of people who pick one over the other. More likely there will be a decrease in the number of people going into the medical profession due to the income drops, and the consequent shortages may be remedied by put less skilled people into place. Not sure that we’re talking dumber, but probably less training.
As an aside, what makes you think that there will be a need for investment bankers in the U.S. after the government in a few years (or possibly less) will have sucked up all capital and decimated domestic private capital. However, there will be need for people to invest private capital abroad.
2) Not sure how this follows; we certainly will have rationing, but not clear how that translates to “promoting” certain diseases.
3) First sentence - we certainly can expect job losses as private industry dries up from lack of private investment capital and punitive taxation, so most people who stay home will probably be because they don’t have a job or because what’s available they consider not worth the time. Health care availabilty my play some role, but since they can get it either working or not, the deciding issue will be whether they think it worthwhile on other grounds to work or not. Second sentence is silly.
4) Immigration depends on many factors; the largest factor will be the economic advantage of and availability of work in the U.S., which if we’re in a deep depression will sharply reduce flows. We’ve already seen less immigration with the current conditions as the U.S. becomes less favorable. Not sure how much medical will figure in, depends on quality of Mexican medicine vs. quality of U.S. medicine - and the latter will worsen under ObamaCare. It could well be that immigrants will do better sticking with their own nation’s health care system. I wasn’t aware the leprosy was rampant among immigrants.
5) Surely there is some moral hazard, but most people don’t want to sick regardless of how care is being paid for, so it’s not clear how much effect there will be on safety measures. Nor is it clear why STDs or drinking bad water should increase under ObamaCare. Indeed, with contraceptive services, STDs might actually decrease - but free abortions might increase risk-taking behavior. It’s really perilous to predict behavior changes; too many countervailing factors.

Socialized Medicine Kills People
ColdWarrior Friday, July 17th at 4:22AM EDT (link)The “main thing” is that ObamaCare will KILL PEOPLE.
That’s obvious.
Watch the Steve Crowder video:
Erick Erickson mentioned this video two nights ago on Hannity. Everyone here should watch it and then help it go viral. Once you watch the whole thing, I’m sure you’ll agree.
(I always love seeing clips of Michael “I’ve been to rehab many times, I’m obese, and I give none of my millions of dollars to charity” Moore lecturing the “little people” on how to best ensure a healthy, altruistic life.)

#8 It would kill Private insurance
JHancock Friday, July 17th at 4:35PM EDT (link)It’d kill Private insurance VERY quickly. Look at the language on page 16 of the bill.
Copied from the bill (I downloaded it and have read the first forty pages so far)
(1) LIMITATION ON NEW ENROLLMENT.—
11 (A) IN GENERAL.—Except as provided in
12 this paragraph, the individual health insurance
13 issuer offering such coverage does not enroll
14 any individual in such coverage if the first ef-
15 fective date of coverage is on or after the first
16 day of Y1.
So basically only approved plans can be offered and all other options become illegal.
Also
(b) REQUIREMENTS FOR QUALIFIED HEALTH BENE2
FITS PLANS.—On or after the first day of Y1, a health
3 benefits plan shall not be a qualified health benefits plan
4 under this division unless the plan meets the applicable
5 requirements of the following subtitles for the type of plan
6 and plan year involved:
Will abortion be a required benefit?? If so this would circumvent the agreements keeping Federal funds from paying for abortion, even if you were paying into an approved “private plan” you could end up financing abortion with your money.
Benefits covered
JHancock Friday, July 17th at 4:44PM EDT (link)Could possibly cover condoms and BC for your kids, might cover abortion.
The language is not too specific and additions and benefits will be decided by the secretarywho is a complete flaming liberal.
(b) MINIMUM SERVICES TO BE COVERED.—The
items and services described in this subsection are the fol21
lowing:
(1) Hospitalization.
(2) Outpatient hospital and outpatient clinic
services, including emergency department services.
(3) Professional services of physicians and other
health professionals.
(4) Such services, equipment, and supplies incident to the services of a physician’s or a health professional’s delivery of care in institutional settings, physician offices, patients’ homes or place of residence, or other settings, as appropriate.
(5) Prescription drugs.
(6) Rehabilitative and habilitative services.
(7) Mental health and substance use disorder services.
(8) Preventive services, including those services
recommended with a grade of A or B by the Task
Force on Clinical Preventive Services and those vaccines recommended for use by the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
(9) Maternity care.
(10) Well baby and well child care and oral health, vision, and hearing services, equipment, and supplies at least for children under 21 years of age.
