It cuts both ways

yeah, against the Democrats

Everyone here knows about my concerns about Sarah Palin’s readiness to take over the “big chair” if necessary and, quite frankly, a great speech — and her acceptance speech last night was GREAT — does not change my opinion. If great speeches are the qualifications for being great Presidents and Vice Presidents, then let’s just do what the MSM wants us to do and just proclaim Obama President now.

But believe it or not, I am writing this quick blog more in the interest of comity. I thought I would relate an interesting experience.

A good liberal friend and Obama supporter was commenting about how, yes Sarah Palin gave a great speech but that a great speech doesn’t make her qualified for a high office. Of course, I agreed that Sarah Palin must do more than give a great speech in order to answer questions about whether or not she is ready to be the Vice President of the United States. But then I asked, “Shouldn’t Barack Obama need to do more than give a good speech in order to prove he is ready to be the President of the United States?”

The look of stunned silence was priceless.

And yes, I am still waiting for the reply.

Zoot, I must admit that you were one of the ones

I was thinking of by the end of Sarah’s speech last night. Understand your point about needing to do more than give a good speech, but please look at more than her words and the delivery.

As another woman, I can tell you Sarah has a spine of steel, a quicksilver mind, and an ability to be flexible when necessary. She has character in truckloads and her ethics have stood the test of time so far.

If Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher had had a daughter, she would be Sarah Palin.

Time to quit worrying and just jump on board, Zoot. And SMILE about it, too.

I'd pay good money to have seen that face. -nt-

The One

I am waiting for the dems to compare Palin to Joan of Arc.
My wife is in the tank for Obama. I am a die-hard Repub.
It is very difficult to get through to her. We are calling a truce until after the election. She did watch some of Palins speech and I can tell she is having a hard time. She detests the medias attitude but still acts like a child that does not want to hear something. You know they cover their ears and start screaming when you bring up some facts about why BHO is not the One.
Go Sarah Go!!!

Sorry but experience still matters to me

And great speech or not, I still think Sarah Palin lacks it (evidently just like about 50% of RedState until the day she was actually chosen).

I like Sarah Palin and never doubted that she has all the qualities you mentioned above. However, I still think experience matters and I still question hers. And no, less than two years as the chief executive of a state with a population not much greater than the company I am working on a re-org for really doesn’t cut it with me.

Indeed, the interesting thing about your comment is that you are asking me to do what I was snarking at my friend for. And by the way, I have read the text as well as watched the speech twice (well, actually one-and-a-half times, I did not get to watch everything the first time). But the thing is, you are now asking me to now support Sarah Palin because she made a great speech.

Sorry but no thanks. I leave that sort of silliness for the Obamanoids. That’s why I posted the above: so we can make fun of them.

Heck, to paraphrase you, as a Black man that also hails from Chicago (and who still knows some of the people he used to know), I can tell you that Obama is not the “abomination” that many on this site want to think he is. Yes, even Barack Obama has a few good qualities. But I am still not voting for the inexperienced Marxist.

But it is nice to be thought of, seriously, if even under strange circumstances.

Zoot, maybe these two items will help your Palin fears

And here is video of Palin debating her opponents in the Governor’s race:

Experience the Experience of Experience!

It is a question of the threshold: how much do you need or want to be the president?

One looks at the resume of George Bush ‘42 and it overwhelms Abraham Lincoln’s experience.

One of the best qualified men on paper to sit in the White House was James Buchanan. No more commentary is necessary on that one!

Here is my thought experiment:

Could Obama turn out to be at least halfway decent, if a Republican majority accompanied him into the White House?

I have a suspicion he might rise to the occasion, but only with Republicans in control of Congress.

More frightening question: Would Obama rise to the occasion, if e.g. Russia decides to ally openly with Iran and ships them nuclear weapons?
