Obama Releases Yet Another Al Qaeda Terrorist from Gitmo, And This One's A *Bomb* Expert

The Obama Administration’s struggling crusade to close the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is mired in state and federal politics, and frustrated White House and Pentagon officials are blaming each other for the slow progress releasing approved detainees and finding a new prison to house the remainder. The Department of Defense announced today the release of two more detainees from Guantanamo Bay, and one of them is an explosives expert who made bombs for Al Qaeda to use against Americans. It’s fine, though, the government says he probably maybe won’t do any more terror bomb making because he gave us some information while in custody.

This latest release will make 16 prisoners released since the first of the year.

The former detainees are Tariq Mahmoud Ahmed Al Sawah, who was transferred to Bosnia, and Abd al-Aziz Abduh Abdallah Ali Al-Suwaydi, who went to Montenegro. It is all under the President’s plan to close the facility per his totally ridiculous campaign promise and the silly, misguided, uninformed Democrat talking point that the prison is some sort of irreplaceable “recruiting tool” for bad guys.

The Hill has the most damning few paragraphs on this so far:

[Tariq Mahmoud Ahmed al-Sawah] “is an admitted member of the terror group who developed specialized bombs, or improvised explosive devices (IEDs), to use against U.S. military forces and civilians, according to his official file posted by The New York Times.

“These IEDs included the limpet mine to sink US naval vessels and the prototype for the shoe-bomb used in a failed attack on a civilian transatlantic flight,” his file said.

Al-Sawah’s file also notes that while he will possibly reestablish “extremist associations,” his cooperation with the U.S. government makes it unlikely he will do so.

How good is their record at determining this low threat? Well we were similarly assured that Ibrahim Qosi would not go back into the “kill Americans” business when he was released from Gitmo. Guess what happened?

Ibrahim Qosi, also known as Sheikh Khubayb al Sudani, formerly of a cell in Guantanamo Bay, is now a leader with Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) operating in Yemen.

As I noted in that story, he was even featured in a video released by the terror group.

Another detainee is set to be released before the end of January. Whether he’ll be a bomb maker, a member of leadership, or some other nightmare I don’t yet know.

But I know this, President Obama will sleep well. Not because Americans will be safe. But because his leftists legacy will be.
