Donald Trump's God Fraud is Revealed, Exposed, and ... Sigh

Dr. Ben Carson was lately fired from Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential selection committee for, it seems, letting too much slip when speaking to the media, so it’s not hard to imagine that soon he’s going to lose his new job of pitching Trump as a man of faith to men and women of faith, considering his latest oopsie: outing Trump as a faith faker.

Dr. Carson, who is in fact demonstrably a practitioner of his faith, gave a sit-down interview with The Hill and revealed the unsurprising “secret” seemingly inadvertently and without guile:

Trump’s former presidential rival, a key surrogate and possible vice presidential pick, told The Hill on Friday that he believes Trump is becoming more spiritual.

“I know that he has prayed. I have eyewitness,” Carson said in a Facebook Live interview.
Asked whether he had personally seen Trump pray, the retired neurosurgeon, who is a man of deep Christian faith, conceded he had only heard about Trump praying.

“I have not seen him [pray] but I have eyewitnesses who have,” Carson said. “And I think he’s starting to move more in that direction. I think that’s a good thing.

“I think he’s starting to recognize that there’s a greater power. And I tell him, just last week, that I believe God is using him.”

He’s starting to believe in a great power, you guys! (Carson thinks.) Why, he’s even PRAYED!! (Carson hears from reliable sources.)

Before our more literal liberal-minded friends wonder why it matters if Trump believes in the Christian God, allow me to explain that is because he has repeatedly claimed to believe in the Christian God and, arguably more importantly, has specifically attacked the faith of others who claim to believe in the Christian God. He’s an untrustworthy liar, again and still, and this time about and using Christianity.

Yes, although it is clear that Trump and his campaign and his fans and his recent “realist” converts and Marco Rubio would like us to forget about the primary, it did actually happen. And fairly recently. And during that primary, the execrable Trump used Christian faith as a sales tool for his campaign and as a bludgeon to bash others.

For one thing, he claimed Ted Cruz misused a Bible during a televised Presidential debate. This was an obvious lie considering how much video there was of the event, but no one in the press called him on it.

In fact, Trump made the Bible claim about Ted Cruz repeatedly in an attempt to smear him as a false Christian and boost his own terrible credibility on faith. “Holds that Bible high, puts it down and then he lies,” he said at rally after rally, over and over. Really the number of crazy Bible claims he made is unreal.

Of course we already know he can’t quote the Bible correctly, can’t say the names of Books of the Bible correctly, and does not believe in the most basic tenets of the faith by his own admission.

Even so, Trump has been embraced by more than one pastor who claim to know him as a “man of faith.” I’ll spare them the ignominy of mention here, but they know who they are, and I’ll bet you do too.

There are a thousand other ways in which Trump capitalized on or took advantage of people of faith in order to advance his very earthly lust for power. I cannot here link to the seventy times seven times a thousand instances of his citing faith, the Bible, or Christian values in a cynical and thinly veiled pander. He offered it as a cover for evangelical voters, and they gladly accepted it to focus on their other policy goals. What’s worse, they repeated it and proclaimed it truth.

What’s that saying about false prophets? I forget.

You don’t have to care if Donald Trump is a Christian. You ought to care if he a dirty liar who used Christianity on the campaign trail to exalt himself and debase others. That’s something you should care about. Yes, even you, “I’m about stopping Hillary” voters.

He’s caught. As inconvenient as it is for your cause that he’s a filthy liar, he’s caught. He’s caught holding the Bible high and using it to lie. That’s your guy. Congratulations.

Not that anyone seems to care. Or ever did. Sigh.
