Disappointment: 'Sex & the City' Author Comes to a Surprising & Sad Realization as a Middle-Aged Woman

If you’ve seen Sex & the City, you know it’s not exactly an ode to family life. It’s moreso about three chicks singlin’ it up in the Big Apple and sometimes beddin’ it up.

But Candace Bushnell — the author of the novel that started it all — conveyed a much homier message to Sunday Times Magazine: She regrets that she never became a mom.

As reported by Fox News, after splitting from her husband of 10 years in 2012, she felt “truly…alone”:

“When I was in my 30s and 40s, I didn’t think about it. Then when I got divorced and I was in my 50s, I started to see the impact of not having children and of truly being alone. I do see that people with children have an anchor in a way that people who have no kids don’t.”

If only Candace had known brilliant Professor Jordan Peterson — his message to women is that motherhood is an adventure (here).

Candace came onto the scene as a prominent dating columnist at The New York Observer. Her writings were anthologized in her television-show-spawning book.

The 60-year-old’s upcoming release — Is There Still Sex in the City? — deals with “middle-age sadness.”

As per Deadline, that, too, is being made into a TV series.

The new work follows a group of middle-aged women’s relocation from the big city to the Hamptons for a fresh start:

“We’re all single women without children. And you think about, what are you going to do when you get old?. If you don’t have kids, you realize, ‘Who is going to take care of me?’ Your girlfriends.”
