In the UK, a tribunal has ruled against a Christian doctor over his view of what designates male and female.

Last year, 56-year-old Dr. David Mackereth filed a grievance against the Department for Work and Pensions alleging discrimination.

As reported by the BBC, the former disability claims assessor was suspended for refusing to use transgender pronouns.

Shortly after being appointed to the position, he was asked by a manager at an assessment center to call a man “she” and “Mrs.”

David explained, “As a Christian, I would not be able to accede to such a request in good conscience.” He couldn’t refer to “any 6ft tall bearded man” as “madam.”

Mackereth believed the suspension violated Britain’s Equality Act; he was represented by the Christian Legal Centre.

During proceedings, the “experienced emergency department doctor” told the tribunal, “What I object to is being forced to do violence to language and common sense, in a ritual denial of an obvious truth, for the sake of an ideology which I disbelieve and detest.”

According to court documents, he stated his belief that “[G]od created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

The tribunal wasn’t impressed; they judged that his beliefs violate “human dignity”:

Irrespective of our determinations above, all three heads, belief in Genesis 1:27, lack of belief in transgenderism and conscientious objection to transgenderism in our judgment are incompatible with human dignity and conflict with the fundamental rights of others, specifically here, transgender individuals.

David plans to appeal:

“I believe that I have to appeal in order to fight for the freedom of Christians to speak the truth. If they cannot, then freedom of speech has died in this country, with serious ramifications for the practice of medicine in the UK.”

With the ruling, Christian Legal Centre Chief Executive Andrea Williams noted a colossal societal turn:

“It is deeply disturbing that this is the first time in the history of English law that a judge has ruled that free citizens must engage in compelled speech.”

At what point do the liberties of one trump those of another? Contemporarily, we’re looking at a battle of mouths and ears: Some believe they have a right to never hear certain things; others insist they may say what they wish, and nothing more.

The founders were mouth men.
