During his September 22nd game against the Seattle Seahawks, NFL star Demario Davis donned a headband boasting the words “Man of God.”

The NFL wasn’t enthused, as they prohibit players from wearing “personal messages” on their uniforms.

Therefore, the National Football League fined him $7,000.

Demario took the opportunity to start selling the headbands — including a “Woman of God” version — for $25 a piece. 100% of proceeds went to the St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, where his mom used to work.

The initiative brought in more than $30K.

As reported by ESPN, the New Orleans Saints linebacker effervesced, “We’ve been able to turn it into a positive and use it to raise funds for a hospital that’s trying to rebuild this emergency room. And just to have the support of the community — and pretty much nationwide — it’s been amazing.”

On Tuesday, Demario received even more great news: In response to his appeal, the NFL had rescinded the fine.

In part, he posted the following to Instagram, along with a photo of kids from the St. Louis King of France Catholic School wearing Saints and “Child of God” headbands:

“Look at all these beautiful children of God!

“Always glory above so I’m taking every penny of that original $7,017 fine and donating it to @stdomhospital anyways. So far, we’ve raised over $30,000 for them from the headbands!! That means yall helped me turn a $7,000 negative into an almost $40,000 positive benefiting people who truly need it!!! Do y’all see how that worked?? Let’s gooooo. That’s crazy! Ya’ll are a part of this journey too!! I can’t thank ya’ll enough either. We on a mission over here obstacles are meant to be conquered!! I’m truly blessed as anybody.”

To press Wednesday, he called the school’s support “unbelievable,” and he said he was trying to figure out a way “to show [his] gratitude.”

And whether he wears a headband or not, he has a clear mission:

“No matter the case, whether I’m wearing a headband, or whether I’m not wearing a headband, whether I’m talking about a headband, I’m not talking about a headband, I’m always using my platform to glorify God. And that’s never going to change. Because I believe He’s the one who gave me this platform for that purpose to make His name known. So I’ll always be about that.”

Demario gave God the credit and noted only He could bring about such a blessing:

“[G]od can get glory from the situation whether I wear the headband or not. And so, it seems like He’s gotten more glory from me not wearing the headband than He’s gotten from me wearing it. And so only He can do something to make it that big like that and move in the hearts of people. And so I just give the credit to Him.”
