In a word, the Democrats stink.

It’s pitiful.

I’m talking about their chances for 2020 victory.

They had the guy who served as Obama’s #2, but they ruined him with impeachment mania (here).

They’ve got a lady at the forefront, but she can’t possibly compete with Trump on the debate stage (here).

Then they have people saying things that suggest they in no way want to be even remotely electable:

  • Julián Castro believes men can get pregnant (here) and denounces the racism of tornadoes (here).
  • Beto O’Rourke claims to be against the very kind of person he himself is (here), says he wants to confiscate your hunting rifle while you keep your hunting rifle (here), and thinks tire-changing is a clean, shirt-tucked-in activity (here).
  • Cory Booker — who wants everyone to hear him speak Spanish (here) and insists you’ve gotta go vegan or destroy the world (here) — believes he’s set to win because he’s set to lose (here).

And I’m sure you could add a great deal more to that abridged list of goofiness.

So what’s a doomed party to do?

Well, according to reports from Iowa relayed by The Daily Wire, some are looking at beleaguered Southbend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg as a possible Superman to Donald J.’s Lex.

From political ‘zine Iowa Starting Line:

[T]here’s real reason to think Pete Buttigieg could yet win this nomination outright. One such rather plausible scenario is starting to develop right before our eyes. It starts, as these things so often do, in Iowa.

Currently, Pete’s taking 3rd place in Iowa polls, solidly hitting the double digits.

Pollster John Couvillon explained to The Washington Examiner how it could work:

“If he can win in areas like [Des Moines, Iowa], then theoretically he can challenge Joe Biden for dominance among that part of the Democratic ideological spectrum. While a lot of the Democrats are fighting over the progressive wing, the moderate wing has not been much fought over, and that is what I think Buttigieg is trying to do, and Dallas County is ground zero for that effort.”

Does Pete have a considerable “war chest” in the race? The Daily Wire thinks so:

In order to grab the nomination, Buttigieg has to make a strong showing in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina, or Nevada. Doing so could earn him the backing of undecided voters and hedging donors, building up his already substantial war chest and putting him among the frontrunners.

Also, as per TDW, Pete’s moderate in comparison to some of his fellow hopefuls:

He competes well nationally, rakes in the cash, and, perhaps best of all, he’s not Biden and Warren, two intensely controversial Democratic figures.

Poor Joe Biden’s been trying really hard to be as woke as someone who’s not particularly bright: He recently claimed illegal immigrants are more American than young Americans (here).

Elizabeth’s trumpeting impeachment for Bret Kavanaugh.

And there’s this:

Warren is making some Democratic bigwigs nervous already, with an announcement that she will forgo donations from corporations, banks, the technology sector, and SuperPACs, and won’t attend any high-dollar fundraisers for her own presidential campaign. That may be popular among voters, but it won’t be popular among Democrats who need to fund the party, especially given that the presidential nominee shares his or her take with the national committee.

Across the Democratic landscape, it ain’t a pretty sight:

Things are looking so grim that, last week, big money Democratic donors were reportedly asking the party if there was anyone else available to run in 2020, according to The New York Times. Funders reportedly floated names like Michelle Obama, Sherrod Brown, and even Hillary Clinton.

Did you flinch right there at the very end?

So does Pete have a chance? He’s really eaten dirt in the press in terms of black support: It’s never a good sign when a Black Lives Matter leader flies across the continent to oust you from your Democratic office (here).

But perhaps all the other candidates are worse.

The Left side of the aisle has dropped the ball in an incredible way. Their energy’s gone toward absurd attacks on Donald Trump as they seem to have forgotten politics is actually won by elections.

Oops.

In the end, is Pete the last man (or woman) standing?

And if so, would the DNC do better just picking someone out of a Hardee’s drive thru?

It may not be a bad idea; and they have great biscuits.

Let us all know what you think.
