(VIDEO) Kids Thrown From Window to Police Below to Escape Fire

Early on Tuesday morning, Des Moines first responders were called to a fire in an apartment building, KCCI reports. Police arrived first, and found that Osheana Harrison at a her third-story window; she was trapped in the building with her three young children.

Police arrived on the scene first, and had to take desperate measures to save 3-month-old Jayciere, 18-month-old Ariyah and 3-year-old Breeaylah, desperate to help them. Des Moines police said senior officers Cole Johnson, Craig Vasquez, Tyler Kelley and Casey Sanders stood below the window as Harrison dropped her children three stories to safety. The officers caught the children and comforted them while a ladder was brought in to rescue their mother.

On the bodycam footage, Sanders can be heard calming the children, saying “We got you. We got you. Are you scared, babies? It’s OK. They’re getting your mom out right now.”

The Des Moines Police Department honored the police officers on their Facebook page in a post that has thousands of grateful comments from around the world.

Fire Lt. Rick Thomas says none of children, officers or firefighters was injured, 660 News reports. The fire cause is being investigated.
