Report: Russian Truther Rep. Eric Swalwell to Blow Millions in 2020 Democratic Primary Race

Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., pauses to speak with reporters as former FBI lawyer Lisa Page is questioned behind closed doors by members of the House Judiciary Committee and House Oversight Committee on whether political bias affected the investigations of Hillary Clinton’s emails and the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Monday, July 16, 2018. Ok, maybe I’m being too kind with the blowing millions part. Will he even raise that much?

Russian truther and CNN regular Rep. Eric Swalwell is apparently about to throw his hat into the ring for 2020. Because what the Democratic primary needs is another hardcore progressive conspiracy theorist with no real base of support.

This guy is the Rachel Maddow of the U.S. House. Every day he’s got some new wild-eyed conspiracy about Trump and Russia. He’s second only to Adam Schiff in constant cable news hits spewing allegations he has no actual evidence for. When his theories fail, he just doubles down and yells at the wall.

There’s a certain arrogance to this that only a shameless Washington politician could possess. I know it’s dangerous to say someone has no chance after Donald Trump’s rise, but Swalwell has no chance. He doesn’t stand out, he’s just a run of the mill liberal, and his biggest draw (his Russian trutherism) is crashing and burning as we speak.

Per The Atlantic, he’s going to kick this off in Parkland and announce on The Colbert show, which is essentially just a Democratic Super PAC at this point.

“Next week, Eric Swalwell is joining the pack. The California congressman and frequent cable-news guest on all things related to President Donald Trump and Russia will announce his presidential plans in an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. But he won’t be running on Russia, or on the continuing fallout from the Mueller report and the Barr letter. Swalwell will center his campaign on gun control.”

Standing on the bodies of dead children in Parkland to kick off a political campaign is pretty reprehensible. This is especially true given what we now know, i.e. that a myriad of failures by the Sheriff lead directly to making the shooting possible. It’s also worth noting that Swalwell is from California, not Florida, so kicking off in another state is a bit odd.

We live in interesting times, where someone can be so consistently wrong for two years and then run for President on the basis of how wrong he was. Failing up is the new norm, although there’s little double he’ll fail again in this instance.
