This is sad to see. Not because I care anything about Mario Lopez, but because it’s more evidence of just how bad of a place we are in.

Yesterday, Lopez found himself in a firestorm after he made some very common-sense comments on transgenderism. Namely, that a three-year-old has no ability to choose their gender and that allowing them to do so is dangerous.

Here are the comments via my RedState colleague, Alex Parker.

“I’m kind of blown away, too. Look — I’m never one to tell anyone how to parent their kids, obviously. … And I would say if you come from a place of love, you really can’t go wrong. But at the same time, my God, if you’re three years old, and you’re saying you’re feeling a certain way or you think you’re a boy or girl or whatever the case may be, I just think it’s dangerous as a parent to make that determination then, ‘Okay, then you’re going to be a boy or girl’ or whatever the case may be. It’s sort of alarming and, my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on.”

On what planet is that controversial? This one apparently.

The online mob absolutely filleted him as a “transphobe” for speaking simple truth about the inability of small children to decide they are the opposite gender, never mind the issues with adults who entertain such.

What’d Lopez do? He got woke in a hurry.

“The comments I made were ignorant and insensitive, and I now have a deeper understanding of how hurtful they were,” Lopez said in a statement. “I have been and always will be an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community, and I am going to use this opportunity to better educate myself. Moving forward I will be more informed and thoughtful.”

Lopez did just that though. Perhaps he’ll now fade into obscurity again, which is probably what he wants. He’s got a livelihood to protect after all.

It’s still a sad testament to our current society that you can’t even speak nominal truth about the differences in gender, even dealing with small children, without inviting a mob of left-wingers trying to destroy you. What’s more frustrating in this case is that we know radical positions on transgenderism are not actually majority opinions. The support for such is made to seem much larger by a cultural onslaught of pseudo-science and positive press coverage.

I keep thinking this has to stop at some point. There has to be a tipping point where most of the country just says “enough, this is ridiculous.” I’m not so sure though, given how easy it is to manipulate public perception these days, and the lobbies for these different social justice issues are only growing stronger.
