Marble Halls & Silver Screens Podcast ep. 51 -- The One Year Anniversary Edition

Covering the connection of DC politics and Hollywood entertainment as they contribute to our culture.

Somehow, some way — and in many ways we do not fully understand — Sarah and Brad have managed to be putting on this plate-spinning show for one full year! Nobody is more surprised than us (since nobody else really is paying attention) but it has been a blast for both of us in any case.

Coming off of our holiday break we had to get our muscle-memory to return, and in keeping with our brief tradition, we covered the Golden Globes, as we had in our first broadcast. Also we did not let the government shutdown affect us as we plunged into subjects involving The Wall (but not Pink Floyd), whether the newest Congresscritter is crazy, and who will host the Oscars. For the end of the year Brad haa a list of the worst movie from last year, and Sarah gave her review of the latest Spider-Man effort.

Brad sent Sarah a “Florida Man” Christmas card, meanwhile he was off on a holiday beer tour.

THIS WEEK’S THEME: “Say Goodbye To Hollywood” — Billy Joel

  • The Golden Globes were awarded and the show was mostly a toned down affair — until the celebrities began worshiping Satan. Amazingly, that is not hyperbole.
  • We dove into the issue of the border wall, and the ensuing government shutdown. The Dems are up against a negotiator who knows how to bargain.
  • Brad compiled a list of the 25 bombs in theaters last year. It seems he has a thing for failures…
  • Sarah saw “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” and raved about it. One writer at the NY Times saw it and had a problem with the movie — he just was unable to actually say what that problem was, specifically.
  • Both Sarah and Brad tried to get a grasp on just how wacked out Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may be – but there was time constraints on the show.
  • The activists were out in force once again about a movie. The new release “The Upside” has Bryan Cranston portraying a wheelchair-bound individual. Disabled activists are all upset, as this is “taking” a role away from disabled performers. We theorize then that “Vice” never should have been made, since no conservatives were portraying the members of the Bush administration.

TWITTER MOMENT OF THE WEEK
Just a little bit of nightmare fuel for you. Director Eli Roth offered up this behind the scenes peek at a very disturbing movie prop.

Sarah and Brad want to wish everyone the happiest of New Years! (Except for Julia Ioffe, because we do not want to offend her!)
