Ever since yesterday when it was announced that Trump has essentially gone completely soft on immigration, Trump allies and the alt-right have been scrambling to find a suitable defense of their god-emperor. Problem is, none of them are actually any good.
But while most Trump supporters can just sit silent on social media, some of them actually have to get up in front of cameras and explain Trump’s newest flip-flop on national TV as best they can.
Enter Katrina Pierson, who has been one of Trump most ardent supporters. Pierson has never been one to shy away from a defense of Trump, no matter how impossible. Even if it makes her sound really, really ridiculous.
And this defense of Trump may be the most ridiculous yet. During a panel on CNN, Pierson was asked about Trump’s sudden squishiness on immigration after one of the panelist made the point that Trump would now drive away his most loyal supporters. Pierson’s response was, well … classic.
“He hasn’t changed his position on immigration,” said Pierson. “He’s changed the words that he is saying.”
This resulted, naturally, in laughter from her fellow panelists. Bless her heart, she tried her best to continue through the mocking.
“What he has always said from the beginning is that he does not want to allow people to stay in this country illegally,” said Pierson. “He does want to build a wall, but he wants to work with congress to get things done.”
But this is false. In fact, Trump was all about a tough as nails approach up until this point. As of now he’s adopted the immigration position of Jeb Bush. You’ll recall Trump, during a debate, said that Bush was the weakest person on immigration on the debate stage.
Trump was all fun and ultra-nationalism until the very thing the Never Trump crowd said would happen happened. Trump is notorious for his flip-flops, walk backs, and flat out lies. If anyone, especially Pierson, was surprised that Trump would suddenly turn his back on his most celebrated position, they have no one to blame but themselves.
