RNC Releases a Statement on the Recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli Capital, With a Fun Fact Included

The Republican National Committee released a statement on Wednesday following Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem being Israel’s capital.

Within it, the RNC brings up previous legislation that actually makes Trump’s announcement nothing necessarily new.

The statement comes from Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel:

“Today, President Trump fulfilled his promise to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, which reflects America’s steadfast commitment to its closest ally in the Middle East,” said Chairwoman McDaniel. “This decision follows legislation passed by Congress in 1995, which also directed relocation of the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. As the president said today, he is committed to achieving a lasting peace agreement between Israel and Palestine.”

Earlier today, Daily Wire editor Ben Shapiro noted exactly why it’s so important that Jerusalem be considered the capital in both terms of history and in the interest of peace. Shapiro noted that Jerusalem is of biblical importance to Israel, and that it should remain under Jewish control, as the Jews have been shown to be far more peaceful, even within the city itself.

The move is historically precedented, both legislatively and religiously.
