White House Believes There Are Enough Votes to Confirm Kavanaugh

There’s still a lot of dust in the air after the vote, and with Senators positioning themselves on one side or another, there’s a lot of confusion about how the vote for Brett Kavanaugh will fall.

However, according to Fox News, the White House is positive that the votes are there, and Kavanaugh will be confirmed:

President Trump welcomed the vote in a tweet, saying he was “very proud” of the Senate. A source familiar with the lobbying efforts to confirm Kavanaugh told Fox News that the White House believes it has the votes to confirm Kavanaugh.

The source said that the White House believes Murkowski will ultimately be a “no,” but Manchin, Collins and Flake will all vote “yes.”

It’s also key to note that if the votes were not there, Mitch McConnell may be holding the vote off a little further in order to try to convince any wayward Republicans or vulnerable Democrats who might be swayed.

As Streiff wrote earlier, there are complications. Montana Senator Steve Daines says he’ll be away at his daughter’s wedding, but will come back to vote yes if need be. Susan Collins is likely a yes vote, but it’s still up in the air. We’ll know more by 3 o’clock ET today, as she said she has an announcement to make. Murkowski is, for all intents and purposes, a lost cause. Flake is a yes, provided he doesn’t run into any more elevator screamers.

Despite all this confusion, however, the White House and McConnell seem confident, and there’s likely a reason for that.

As for now, the forecast calls for a new Supreme Court Justice in Kavanaugh by tomorrow.
