The Democrats are trolling Trump.
If you were to create a tier system of insane Democrats, Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas would rank somewhere near the top, but her latest legislation uses one of Trump’s promises as a way to stop the wall from even being built in the first place, making us see a little method in her madness.
According to the Daily Caller, Lee is pushing a bill she created that would cease construction of a border wall until Mexico fulfills one of Trump’s campaign promises and coughs up the cash for it:
Lee introduced the Protect American Taxpayers and Secure Border Act into the House on Dec. 19, which would “prohibit taxpayer funds from being used to build a wall between Mexico and the United States,” and further require that any barrier constructed on the southern border “be paid for using funds provided by the Government of Mexico.”
She referred the bill to the House Committee on the Judiciary and the Committee on Homeland Security, and already has four cosponsors: Democratic Reps. Karen Bass of California, Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Joaquin Castro of Texas and Yvette Clarke of New York.
Democrats, including its sponsors, haven’t really said much about the legislation, oddly enough, but it’s unlikely that the bill would actually get any traction. It’s highly likely that it was crafted as a way to troll the Trump administration.
At this time, Republicans and Democrats are engaged in a standoff over the House-passed stopgap funding bill for the wall, which puts aside $5.7 billion for its construction.
Weirdly enough, one of the Democratic leaders battling Trump fiercely is Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who just a decade ago was on camera sounding just like a Republican, and talking about how border barriers actually help prevent illegal immigration, which he called “wrong, plain and simple.”
