The Democratic response of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was an awkward affair and became the first major meme of 2019, but Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) had a response to the response.
Connecting with the Daily Caller, Cruz sat down to discussed his thoughts on the Schumer/Pelosi response and explained why Democrats are resisting the $5 billion President Donald Trump is requesting from the government to erect his wall on the southern border.
“I gotta say. Watching the Pelosi/Schumer response was one of the most frightening things I’ve ever seen,” joked Cruz. “You want to talk about a visual. I am pretty convinced that was an actual hostage video.”
Cruz explained that it more or less was a hostage video as the Democrats are currently being held hostage by the radical parts of the left that have taken over the party. Cruz also highlighted that the Democrats have supported major funding for border security in the past to the tune of $40 billion during the Obama administration.
Cruz is correct, as even Schumer is on video in 2009 admitting that border security is common sense.
At this time, the government shutdown looks like it has no end in sight. Democrats are refusing to give a dime to the wall, and Trump recently walked out of talks with Democrats after their refusal. Vice-President Mike Pence later told reporters that there will be no future deals unless funding for the wall happens.
