The media seems to have a horrible case of cognitive dissonance and one former Obama immigration official turned national security analyst for CNN is no different, only this example is off the charts ridiculous.

According to the Daily Wire, Sam Vinograd used to be on former President Barack Obama’s National Security Council and now appears on CNN to give her takes on how Trump is doing in terms of national security. Her takes are going to be understandably biased, but On Tuesday this bias lead her to praise Obama for separating children at the border while lambasting Trump for doing that very same thing.

Appearing with Wolf Blitzer on CNN, Vinograd attempted to sell the fact that Obama separated children from the border as a virtuous act done to keep them safe, while Trump does it because he’s a mean racist:

“When President Obama separated children from their families, Wolf, or from adults, Wolf, it was for their protection. It was if there was a risk of trafficking or another kind of harm that might have been incurred,” said Vinograd.

“But even if he did do that, why is Donald Trump saying that two wrongs make a right? Again, Obama wasn’t wrong, but so he’s saying that because something happened under President Obama, he’s repeating it and upping the ante. That’s an incredibly poor excuse,” continued Vinograd. “He’s systemized that inhumane treatment that, again, Obama was doing to protect the children.”

Translation: Obama separated children with love, but Trump is wrong to do exactly what Obama did.

Astounding. You won’t find gymnastics this spectacular in the Olympics.

Ashe Schow at the Daily Wire highlighted, however, that Obama’s separation for the children’s safety wasn’t actually an accurate statement on Vinograd’s part. Multiple reports show that Obama oftentimes released children into the hands of traffickers:

There is zero evidence that absolutely every separation under Obama was to get children away from traffickers and absolutely every separation under Trump was done for whatever racist intentions the media impugns onto Trump. In fact, a Senate report from January 2016, while Obama was still president, found that the Department of Health and Human Services had actually given more than a dozen immigrant children to human traffickers because it failed to adequately conduct background checks. The New York Times even reported on the situation.

The clutching of pearls and rending of garments over Trump’s separation of children at the border is a necessary step for the children’s safety, and the facilities that house the children are not the Obama-era pens that the media splayed all over any working television screen it could find.

In the end, Vinograd is displaying a perfect “how-not-to” in terms of how your bias should affect you. If you are enraged when your enemy does something you consider wrong, then you should be equally enraged when your ally does the same.

However, Vinograd is perfectly demonstrating that old unofficial Democrat motto of “it’s okay when we do it.”
