Jeffrey Epstein, the financier who also ran a large sex traffick ring used by the rich and powerful, is probably the biggest scandal of this decade and it’s consumed the internet. The “Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself” meme is everywhere, even in airport announcements.

According to the New York Times, we’ve got a fresh new development, however. Apparently, two of the guards who were tasked with watching over Epstein, but were suddenly absent for his “suicide” have been thrown into the clink:

Two federal jail workers who were on duty the night Jeffrey Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail were taken into custody early on Tuesday on federal charges related to their failure to check on him, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

The two federal Bureau of Prisons employees were expected to be charged later Tuesday morning and appear in United States District Court in Manhattan.

The New York Times added some specifics as to what they’re in trouble for:

Rather than checking on Mr. Epstein every half-hour as they were supposed to, the workers fell asleep for hours and falsified records to cover up what they had done, according to several officials with knowledge of the matter.

So both workers meant to watch over a suicide risk fell asleep for hours at the same time? On top of that, we have zero footage of Epstein’s cell thanks to camera malfunctions.

Don’t forget we also have his former cellmate requesting a transfer to a different prison because he’s under threat.

“The clear message Mr. Tartaglione has received is that if he conveys information about the facility or about [Epstein’s] recent suicide, there will be a price to pay,” wrote the lawyer of Epstein’s cellmate. “Whether or not the investigators into the suicide chose to interview Mr. Tartaglione about the attempted suicide to which he was witness or about how the facility is run and the conditions under which the inmates are forced to live, the correction officers know he has information potentially very damaging to the very people now charged with guarding him or their coworkers.”

Mix that in with the fact that major news outlets won’t even allow for discussion about Epstein’s suicide, and you have enough material here to make a sane man don a tinfoil hat.
