Anti-Gun Lobby Shows It’s True Colors, Again

Second Amendment 622

In 2014, the U.S. government spent $387,000 to study the effects of Swedish massages on rabbits. It spent $200,000 to determine if Wikipedia is sexist. Roughly $800,000 was spent to create a smartphone app to teach parents how to convince their kids to eat vegetables. Then, the National Science Foundation threw almost $1 million to determine what happens when mountain lions walk on treadmills.

But when the Department of Justice gives $2.4 million over two years to promote firearm safety through the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), liberal groups start a revolt. Mind you, on an annual basis this expenditure represents less than 0.03 percent of the 2015 Federal expenditures.

But that doesn’t stop the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence – who, one would think by their name would be supportive of a program that promotes firearm safety. This week, the group launched a petition to stop the NSSF from providing law enforcement communities around the country with gun locks, which they then distribute to citizens.

Yet the radical anti-gun establishment is doing just that:

“Whatever good might be done by Project ChildSafe is vastly outweighed by the harm NSSF does in lobbying for reckless gun laws. […] Tell the Department of Justice: Cancel your $2.4 million grant to NSSF and find a better partner for gun violence prevention.”

Another petition on the group’s site begs [mc_name name=’Sen. Bernard Sanders (I-VT)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’S000033′ ] to reconsider his vote for the 2005 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act – which says that gun manufacturers engaged in lawful commerce cannot be held liable for what individuals do with those firearms.

Then – the kicker – the group begs its supporters to vow never to “support any candidate who opposes comprehensive regulation of firearms, or who embraces insurrectionist ideology (i.e., ‘Second Amendment remedies’).” Of course that is tucked away inside their Pledge to Support Candidates Who Will Fight to Reduce Gun Violence. [Emphasis added.]

The group has no interest in stopping only the perpetrators of gun violence – they will only be happy when there is a full repeal of the 2nd Amendment. And therein lies the problem with such left-wing activists.

These extremists purport to favor gun safety, when in fact, they want to completely suppress your Constitutional right to “keep and bear Arms.” They ignore the fact that their strategy has not worked in Chicago – where the strictest gun laws in the country have done nothing to curb violence. But don’t tell the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence – they’re too busy trying to stop a $2.4 million grant to help gun owners lock up their firearms.
