I was just thinking of Operation Chaos and one of the reasons Arlen said he was switching parties.

Specter today on his mutiny or happy reunion with his real family:

“Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans.”

Rush Transcript during the Dem Primary:

Now, in The Politico today, a story by Jeanne Cummings: “Dem Voter Surge Could Cut Clinton Margin.” Now, here’s the basic nuts and bolts of the story. “In Pennsylvania, more than 178,000 Republicans have switched their party ID to Democrat.” Well, 178,000 people have switched. Ninety-two percent of that number have gone to the Democrat Party.

I wonder if we didn’t have some unintended consequences. Yes, the timing hurts but it might work out in the long run to hang this entire poor radical experiment firmly around Dem necks. At this point I believe we have to aggressively purge the party elites to force out the squishy career opportunists to give voters something to vote for.

Specter, a career politician, doesn’t really care or stand for much beyond his own career. Evidenced by his statement today.

“And had Linc Chafee been elected in 2006 the Republicans would have controlled the Senate in 2007 and 2008 and I would have been chairman of the [Judiciary] committee and President Bush nominated 13 circuit judges.

Sounds like a whiney “Kiss my rear or I’ll take my gavel and go home(to the Dem party).”

Good riddance.
