Isn’t it just amazing how President Trump can send the progressive media into hysteria with a simple utterance? It’s like they just can’t help themselves. He makes one comment that might sound questionable, and then progressive leaders — and their friends in the corporate media — run a full court press to sway public opinion against him, and it usually doesn’t work.
There’s a reason for that.
The reason is that the majority of the public knows that in most cases, their outrage sounds about as genuine as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “black” accent. Let’s take Trump’s recent comments on potentially receiving information from foreign sources on his opponent in the 2020 campaign.
In an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Trump indicated that he might be willing to listen to individuals working with a foreign government who are offering opposition research on his political opponents without telling the FBI. Of course, his actual comments were: “I think maybe you do both. I think you might want to listen; there isn’t anything wrong with listening.”
This is an example of Trump saying out loud what other politicians really think but won’t express publicly. Needless to say, the moment the public heard these statements, the hands of every prominent progressive darted to their pearls faster than Joe Biden changing his opinion on the Hyde Amendment. They took to the airwaves and social media to breathlessly condemn the president’s remarks. House Democrats somehow think they can use these comments to impeach Trump.
Speaking of Biden, he took to Twitter to voice his outrage at Trump’s statements:
“President Trump is once again welcoming foreign interference in our elections. This isn’t about politics. It is a threat to our national security. An American President should not seek their aid and abet those who seek to undermine democracy.”
The Daily Beast’s Rick Wilson wrote a piece titled: “Every Member of Team Trump Is Now Enabling Treason,” in which he accuses the president of — you guessed it — committing treason. “This was no fifth-dimensional chess move; it was the commander in chief saying the quite, treasonous part out loud.”
Not to be outdone, Kamala Harris, another Democratic presidential hopeful, tweeted: “The President of the United States has a duty to defend our democracy. This is a clear signal to our foreign adversaries that he won’t.”
Now, most of us are old enough to remember the mostly-debunked Steele Dossier that was commissioned by Fusion GPS at the behest of the Clinton campaign. Christopher Steele, a former MI6 agent, compiled the dossier using information given to him by sources working with the Kremlin. So essentially, the Clinton campaign colluded with the Russians to obtain damaging information on President Trump.
Here is a full list of the comments made by Democrats condemning Clinton for working with a foreign power:
Yep, that’s it. None of them had a single word to say about it. Even a 5-year-old could see that the Democrats don’t actually care about the possibility that a presidential candidate might get damning information from a foreign source on their opponents.
Now, one might be tempted to think that this is just another example of whataboutism. But it’s not. If it’s wrong, then both Trump and Clinton were wrong. But is the FBI knocking on Hillary’s door? Of course not, because there is no law saying that neither of the two candidates could receive information from a foreign source. Well that, and because they’d probably get suicided, but that’s another issue.
When it comes to getting negative information from a foreign government, the reality is that Trump talked about doing it, but Clinton actually did it. This is why the left’s attacks against the president on this matter has the same chances of succeeding as Eric Swalwell does of becoming president.
Nobody who isn’t on the hard left believes for a second that those criticizing Trump actually care about this issue; they can see that the Democrats are intellectually dishonest. They heard Trump make some statements he probably shouldn’t have made, and they thought they smelled blood in the water. Unfortunately for them, this story amounts to a whole lot of nothing on a sesame seed bun.
What do you think? Will the left score points with this story? Let me know in the comments below.
