Here’s what you should know about the Democrat impeachment hearings from one who has worked in Congress:

Any hearing in Congress is essentially a stage play.

From the most mundane budget hearing to the most dramatic confirmation battle, everything is scripted and planned exactly like a play. The plot and conclusion (findings) are pre-determined. The actors (witnesses) are selected to make the specific ‘case’ that the director (majority) decided in advance.

Actors (witnesses) are often coached in what to say or invited because they can be counted on to say the right thing, and their script (testimony), especially in high-profile plays like impeachment or the Kavanaugh hearing, may be written, coached or edited by the committee staff, and the actors (witnesses) may be coached when to cry or make alarming statements. Props (graphics, signs, videos, media presence, etc.) will be carefully engineered.

In partisan battles like impeachment and Kavanaugh hearings, some of the public audience will be there to support one side, and left-wing protestors will be there to at some moment scream or cheer–they will get thrown out, but return later to do it again. It’s all part of the play.

About the only difference between a Congressional ‘play” and a stage play is that the minority is allowed some speaking roles, and except in the impeachment hearing, are allowed to call one or more witnesses.

Staging hearings as plays isn’t a partisan thing or unique to impeachment and confirmation battles, it’s just the way hearings are run, which is to promote a particular bill or issue, or used as oversight to investigate agencies.

So when the curtain goes up on each day’s impeachment hearing, do not expect anything but an entertainment play designed for high ratings and with a pre-ordained conclusion.

The impeachment hearing are just a show trial, produced like a play and masquerading as an impartial investigation.
