Leaking the UK’s nuclear secrets to Russia as a side deal for the START treaty is big news, is it not? Why isn’t there anything in Saturday’s Washington Post? New York Times? Hello??

The top story on Friday’s Drudge Report has been:

SECRET DEAL: US AGREES TO TELL RUSSIA UK’S NUKE SECRETS

Everybody reads the Drudge Report, so the Washington Post and the New York Times hardly need special notice.

From The Telegraph (London):

WikiLeaks cables: US agrees to tell Russia Britain’s nuclear secrets
The US secretly agreed to give the Russians sensitive information on Britain’s nuclear deterrent to persuade them to sign a key treaty, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.

Information about every Trident missile the US supplies to Britain will be given to Russia as part of an arms control deal signed by President Barack Obama next week.

Defence analysts claim the agreement risks undermining Britain’s policy of refusing to confirm the exact size of its nuclear arsenal.

Note the whopping 1,435 comments.

This comes out the Friday afternoon before the Super Bowl?

The START treaty was signed this week. This was supposedly a crown jewel for Obama, yet curiously, reporters couldn’t attend. From Michelle Malkin’s site:

Transparency Update: Reporters Shut Out of START Treaty Signing

Now, why would an event the administration classifies as a crowning achievement be closed to the press?

So now we learn that Obama made a side agreement that compromises the security of our closest ally?

Not one senator was told about this?

Shouldn’t there be some sort of investigation? Immediately?

Oh. My. God.

For a piece of paper?

But WikiLeaks Is Often Hype… One thing: WikiLeaks doesn’t have all the diplomatic cables. It might be the case (in fact, I’d bet hope it is the case) that the US and UK had a side-deal where the UK blessed this exchange.

So, actually, give this one 24 hours.

But Then… Allies paper things over publicly even in the case of a major breach. Publicly, they say “everything’s cool.’
So to find out the real story, we’ll also have to wait for anonymous quotes from the British government. We can also look to the enthusiasm they show or lack when making their “everything’s cool” statement.

Yes, I’ll give this 24 hours. But I’m looking through the Washington Post right now, and Saturday’s newspaper and all its blogs show not a thing. I’m looking through the New York Times, and Saturday’s newspaper and all its blogs show not a thing. Doesn’t a story like this merit SOMETHING?

I’m checking Google News for “Wikileaks” and ‘Russia” and “Trident.” There are just seven results!

The Obama Administration betrays Britain to appease the Russians …‎
Telegraph.co.uk (blog) – Nile Gardiner – 8 hours ago:

The matter is serious enough to merit Congressional hearings in Washington as well as parliamentary hearings in London. It is easy to see why the Obama team refused to allow the US Senate access to the negotiating documents for New START, as they would have sparked outrage on both sides of the Atlantic that would almost certainly have killed the Treaty. The Telegraph report clearly contradicts repeated claims by the Obama negotiating team that no side deals were struck with their Russian counterparts. Not for the first time, the current US administration has been eager to appease America’s enemies while shamelessly undercutting her allies.

SUMMARY
Is anybody going to report this? Debunk it, fine, but report it! I know, even in a weekend where Jennifer Lopez is going to a Super Bowl party with the president!

This smells as bad as can be. Please, tell me where I’m wrong.
