As far as I can tell, Kansas’ future Governor Sam Brownback is doing what he can to move the Kansas Republican Party to the left.  I wouldn’t know for sure, because his campaign’s strategery includes the decision to refuse to communicate with many conservatives; oddly, he’s simultaneously reaching out to the far left, as he has at least one provably-corrupt ex-banker on his steering committee for governor.

But it is reassuring that out-of-state conservatives are doing what Brownback’s team won’t, and that is advance a good-government, fiscally conservative agenda — in Kansas’ First Congressional District, State Senator Tim Huelskamp has received an amazingly-wide base of support from folks like the Club for Growth, Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Concerned Women for America, and now Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Huelskamp’s primary opponents include liberal State Senator Jim Barnett, and Brownback’s former chief of staff Rob Wasinger, whom we can assume would be as moderate in Congress as Brownback has.

A couple of weeks ago, my political action committee endorsed Huelskamp.

DODGE CITY – This morning, the Congressional campaign of Tim Huelskamp (R-Fowler) announced that they have received the endorsement of Texas Governor Rick Perry. Governor Perry has emerged as a leading conservative voice in the Republican Party, and Senator Huelskamp said he was honored to receive Perry’s endorsement.

In a letter to the citizens of Kansas, Governor Perry said: “There is only one candidate in this race that will keep the state of Kansas and our nation moving forward in the right direction, and that’s Tim Huelskamp…I do not make this endorsement lightly and only offer my support when I am certain of a candidate’s strong conviction…Tim is without a doubt one of those candidates and I am proud to offer my endorsement of his campaign.”

Tim Huelskamp responded that he was very pleased and honored to receive Governor Perry’s endorsement: “I am very grateful and honored to have Governor Perry’s support,” said Huelskamp. “The conservative movement needs strong principled leaders like Governor Perry and I to continue fighting for the values that made America great.”

Governor Rick Perry joins a long list of national conservative leaders and organizations that have pledged their support to Huelskamp. That list includes Governor Mike Huckabee, The Club for Growth, Congressman Ron Paul, Gun Owners of America, and Concerned Women PAC. Perry’s endorsement continues a recurring trend of prominent conservative leaders backing Huelskamp. The Topeka Capital reported on 7/9/09 that “In the race for the 1st Congressional District seat, state Sen. Tim Huelskamp appears to be the conservatives’ favorite candidate…”

Huelskamp Continues to Dominate Fundraising

April 16, 2010

CONTACT: David Ray: Office: 620-227-9807 Cell: 901-288-4300

DODGE CITY – For the fifth consecutive quarter, Senator Tim Huelskamp outraised all six of his Republican primary opponents, posting contributions totaling a haul of $128, 974 raised in the first quarter of 2010. Huelskamp ended the quarter with an outstanding $530,582 in the bank.
“Tim Huelskamp leads his next closest opponent by nearly $150,000 in cash on hand,” said Huelskamp Spokesman David Ray. “With just over 100 days until the primary election, cash on hand is – without a doubt – the only important fundraising number. It represents the available resources each campaign has to communicate their message with the voters. And in this category, Huelskamp continues to dominate.”

In addition to outraising all other campaigns every quarter this cycle and leading in cash on hand, Huelskamp has raised more than $700,000 over the course of the campaign – more than any other candidate. Having received contributions from all 69 First District counties, Huelskamp’s fundraising totals indicate a broad base of grassroots support. Huelskamp also recently launched the first television ad of the Congressional campaign.

Below are the cash on hand totals for each KS-01 Republican campaign:
Huelskamp $530,582
Barnett $382,824
Mann $261,743
Wasinger $213, 435
Shadwick $23,416
Boldra $17,272
