Former Vice President Joe Biden has based his presidential campaign on “restoring the soul of America” and has torn into President Donald Trump’s character every step of the way. There is significant evidence, however, that Biden is attempting to obfuscate an entire political life built on fabrications and fraud.

Since becoming a former vice-president, Biden has attempted to establish himself as a decent, empathetic, and honest old man in the minds of many Americans. One can reasonably argue this approach has proven successful because he became Democratic frontrunner from the moment he entered the Presidential race, consistently leading the national polls and most state polls. He also leads Trump in almost all head to head polling as well. The American people do not want the radical socialism offered by Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren but do desire a sense of normalcy. Biden at least on paper seems to appeal to what a majority of American voters want.

Breaking through this façade will not prove easy because established brands are difficult to destroy. Fortunately, there are ample lines of attack Biden’s opponents including Trump have failed to exploit so voters would be exposed to new information. Below are five of the most egregious instances of Biden trying to fool voters and carve out his own political mystique:

He has repeatedly lied about marching in the Civil Rights Movement

Biden has enjoyed overwhelming black support throughout the Democratic primaries despite attacks on his race and criminal justice record. Left unmentioned throughout the food fight, however, is Biden’s repeated false tales of involvement in the civil rights movement. He first made these claims during his first presidential campaign in 1987, saying “When I marched in the civil rights movement, I did not march with a 12-point program. I marched with tens of thousands of others to change attitudes. And we changed attitudes.” This, along with plagiarism charges, killed his campaign. Yet Biden’s falsehoods have continued to flow to this day. Last February, for example, Biden told a group of donors in San Francisco that he got involved in the civil rights movement as a kid. In 2014, he boasted without evidence that he helped desegregate movie theaters.

The myth of “Middle-Class Joe”

During his time in the Senate, Biden said he earned the nickname “Middle-Class Joe” due to his working class roots and unsophisticated manner of speaking. The only problem is no evidence exists of any politician other than Biden uttering that nickname. He almost certainly nicknamed himself “Middle-class Joe” in order to score political points back home in Delaware. On top of this, Biden has a $2.7 million vacation home and has earned more than $15 million since leaving public office.

Biden lied about a drunk driver killing his first wife and daughter

In December 1972, Biden endured an unbearable tragedy that no father and husband deserve: he lost his first wife Neilia and daughter Naomi in a car accident. Police reports determined that the accident happened because Mrs. Biden pulled in front of a tractor trailer and the driver, Curtis Dunn, had no way of avoiding her car. Despite no wrongdoing, Dunn remained haunted by the incident for the rest of his life.

After Dunn’s death in 1999, something sinister started happening. Biden began claiming that a drunk driver killed his wife and daughter. While speaking to the University of Delaware in 2001, he claimed “an errant driver stopped to drink instead of drive.” In 2007, he claimed Dunn had “drank his lunch instead of eating his lunch.” Biden cruelly waited until Dunn could no longer defend himself because otherwise he likely would have faced a libel suit. The latest lie caused so much pain to his family that Pamela Hamill, Dunn’s daughter, called on Biden to publicly apologize. He never did, but he finally apologized to her privately after a 2009 CBS report on his fabrications.

He made up a story about traveling to Afghanistan to appear heroic

While most have heard the tale of Hillary Clinton’s laughable claim of dodging sniper fire, few realize Biden said something last year that bears similarities. In August, Biden told a crowd in New Hampshire that when he was vice-president, he risked his skin to travel to the dangerous Konar province in Afghanistan at the request of a four-star general to recognize a Navy captain’s heroism. Biden claimed he was supposed to pin a Silver Star on the Navy captain, but instead the captain angrily refused because he felt like he failed. According to The Washington Post, however, Biden fabricated the whole story:

Biden visited Konar province in 2008 as a U.S. senator, not as vice president. The service member who performed the celebrated rescue that Biden described was a 20-year-old Army specialist, not a much older Navy captain. And that soldier, Kyle J. White, never had a Silver Star, or any other medal, pinned on him by Biden. At a White House ceremony six years after Biden’s visit, White stood at attention as President Barack Obama placed a Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor, around his neck.

Brian Williams became a national meme and lost his job with NBC News for prevarications like this, yet Biden continues to roll on. Stolen valor apparently does not matter if you are the Democratic frontrunner.

Biden told a columnist about his late son’s dying wish for him to run for President

During the 2016 cycle, Biden actively considered a belated run for the White House before ultimately passing on a bid.  While in the final stages of his decision, New York Times columnist  Maureen Dowd reported that Biden’s late son Beau tried to make him promise to run, arguing that America “should not revert back to the Clintons and that the country would be better off under  Biden values.” Who was the source for her report? Joe Biden.  Yes, Biden exploited his dead son to test the waters for a Presidential campaign. In addition, Biden changed the details of the story when speaking to others, lending questions to the tale’s veracity.

Biden’s whole political career is one giant con and he has proven himself a compulsive liar over the course of several decades. Yet he has built an image of himself as a decent, honest human being who wants save America and the world from a Trump second term. Given his lead in the Democratic polls and in head –to-head general election polling against Trump, he stands a good chance of succeeding. So why is no one, including Trump, addressing this scam?
