Cook County Board President Todd Stroger has based his vetoes of the county board’s sales tax repeal ordinances upon the false rhetoric that the choice is between higher taxes or doomsday for the county’s public health and safety services.

We know this is false. We already have about $1 billion budgeted for health care — and when we start eliminating the hundreds of millions of waste, fraud and abuse, we are left with more than enough money to provide these vital services.
