Carthage was an ancient Phoenician culture that ruled over North Africa and into Spain until the 3rd Century AD.  Constantly in conflict with both Greece and later the Roman Republic/Empire, at one time those civilizations accused the Carthaginians of being brutes who practiced infanticide.  At once thought to be nothing but propaganda to rile the more enlightened masses of Greece and Rome, recent finds by archaeologists have discovered that those instances of “propaganda” were quite true- they did practice infanticide and they were brutes.

Fast forward a few hundred centuries and it appears as if that Carthaginian propensity of killing babies has reached our shores.  A man so ugly he looks like he might be an archaeological find himself, New York governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill that would allow the abortion of a child up until the time of birth.  Unlike Carthage, babies will not be offered up in sacrifice to the ruler.  Instead, they will celebrate by lighting up the Empire State Building in pink light.  Perhaps next will be the Statue of Liberty getting rid of her torch and instead holding up a severed baby part.

Cuomo, like Gina Raimondo in Rhode Island and Ralph “Coonman” Northam in Virginia, are liberals through and through.  In both Rhode Island and Virginia, their governors are either set to sign a similar bill into law (Rhode Island) or defended a similar bill (Virginia).  There are also pending bills in Vermont and Massachusetts.  Expect liberal oases like Oregon, Washington and California to follow suit.  So why now?

The reason is because liberals lie in wait and are patient waiting to strike when the time is right.  They are the vipers in the cultural wars.  The Republican Party, supposedly the political party most protective of innocent human life, has ceded the battleground in these states.  The proof is in the makeup of their state legislatures.  Until the 2016 elections, no such law could have been passed in New York because there were enough Republicans in the legislature to block such a law.  Those advantages were swept away in the 2016 elections.  As proof, a Republican-led legislature Virginia (plus some comments by Northam, a medical school yearbook, an apparent sexual predator, and some real bad publicity) put a check on a similar effort.

There are some who have suggested that Cuomo, an alleged Catholic, be excommunicated for his actions. Probably because Archbishop Dolan may have drank too much communion wine one day, he stated that such an action would be “counterproductive.”  One supposes Archbishop Dolan is going to shame Cuomo into changing the law.  If there is one thing the Catholic Church is most consistent about, it is their pro-life stance against abortion.  It appears the Catholic Church, at least in New York, stand powerless against one of its supposed own.

But for how impotent the Catholic Church appears in dealing with one of their own, a lot of the blame can be laid at the feet of the Republican Party in New York and elsewhere.  The same surrender by the GOP is being shown elsewhere.  In California, the Republican Party lost seats in Southern California they reliably held for years.  And forget about the Northeastern United States, especially the New England states.

One must also consider what comes next?  Princeton professor, Peter Singer, has suggested and argues that parents should be allowed the right to kill a child up to age two if they fail to rise to their parent’s expectations.  If that sounds preposterous, not too long ago allowing abortion up until 40 weeks of pregnancy likewise sounded preposterous.  What is sad is that the learned professor from Princeton actually walks the streets of America free since he is actually suggesting that first degree murder should not apply to anyone if they are less than two years old.

Meanwhile, the people of New York have elected a legislature and a governor who obviously have more respect for the life of a convicted killer than they do for an innocent baby.  John Calvin once famously stated: “When God wants to judge a people He gives them wicked rulers.”  The people of New York have been rewarded with a truly wicked viper of a ruler.

A little over two thousand years ago, a person of similar character ordered the slaughter of innocents in Bethlehem.  He died an ugly man so putrid in his existence and death that his servants had to bathe him in perfumes for his funeral lest people not attend.  Cuomo, a refugee from some claymation studio, seems destined for a similar fate.  He will go down in history as a governor who ran sane people out of his state and shocked the sensibilities of sane people everywhere by declaring himself a modern Carthaginian.
