Joe Biden

Practically every political poll shows Joe Biden as the frontrunner in the Democrat sweepstakes to take on Trump in 2020.  Other polls show that Biden has the best chance among the plethora of candidates running to unseat Trump or make it a close race.

Hence, it seems natural that the media which has no love for Trump and is obviously biased in favor of Crazy Uncle Joe and would make hay over a conversation between Trump, the Ukrainian leader, and an alleged whistleblower.  Those whistleblowing accounts, by the way, seem to be fading with the passing minutes and, incidentally, repeating hearsay is technically not whistleblowing.  Regardless, grandstanding morons on the Democrat side in Congress are bleating like sheep about perhaps the greatest threat to American democracy since… the election of Trump in 2016.  This writer is starting to lose track in the past three years over the “threats” to American democracy.

Ukraine was and is a notoriously corrupt country.  Their president, Volodymyr Zelensky, was elected on an anti-corruption campaign.  Even Ukrainians living in Ukraine know Ukraine is corrupt.  So in a now-infamous July 25th telephone conversation between two world leaders, Trump asked Zelensky to look into alleged Ukrainian interference in the 2016 election and the dealings of Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.  On its face, there is nothing remotely wrong with such a request unless, of course, Joe Biden is perhaps your opponent in 2020.  The only thing that separates Trump’s request from countless other requests of foreign countries (and their’s of our’s) is Biden’s last name.

It may all be perfectly innocent (chuckle), but success for the Biden family members does seem to follow Uncle Joe.  So, let’s start there with Joe Biden himself.   While Trump is being accused of a quid pro quo in which the transcripts of the conversation involved no such thing, Biden in 2016 demanded that the Ukrainian government fire prosecutor Viktor Shokin.  According to the man himself, Biden: “I looked at them and said, ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money.’ Well, son of a bitch. He got fired.’ ”  At the time Shokin was investigating corruption involving Burisma, Ukraine’s largest energy company.  They were so corrupt their former CEO is now an international fugitive.  Um… that is the definition of a quid pro quo.

Shokin was no angel, but he was investigating something that hit near home to Biden.  At the time, Burisma was paying Biden’s son, Hunter, $50,000 a month as a board member.  There was absolutely nothing in Hunter Biden’s resume to assume he would be a valuable member of an energy company’s board of directors (except his last name, that is).   He had no experience in the energy sector and could not even speak the language.

Hunter DID once run a hedge fund with Joe’s brother, James, and a notorious Ponzi schemer.  In 2010, brother James went on to get a lucrative job with a construction contractor even though he was a hedge fund manager with no experience in construction.  But that construction company managed to haul in a $1.5 billion contract from the federal government to build affordable housing in Iraq.  Coincidentally, Vice President Joe was Obama’s main man in Iraq at the time.

We are all to believe that this was just coincidence or that every relative of Joe Biden had the Midas touch.  Yet, there are reports (perhaps hearsay whistleblowing?) that there were concerns in the Obama State Department that Hunter’s employment was undermining foreign policy with respect to Ukraine.  One can understand the concern given that Uncle Joe was threatening over $1 billion in aid if the government did not fire the very prosecutor investigating the company his son worked for at the time.

But, the talking heads say we are changing the subject, whatever that subject is from the start.  Chuck Todd characterized legitimate questions about the financially lucrative happenings that follow Joe Biden in his globetrotting adventures of arm-twisting and diplomacy as a “distraction.”  CNN has simply stuck their head in the pile of bananas and declared the allegations “baseless,” although there has never been an investigation to ascertain their “baselessness.”  Others are saying that the firing of Shotkin worked against the interests of Hunter in a fantastic feat of logical pretzel-twisting.  Uncle Joe himself admonished Fox News to “ask the right questions” when pressed on the issue.

While trying to go after Trump with yet another dud of a smoking gun, the Democrats believe they have their “gotcha” moment.  This time they may actually have a smoking gun.  Thankfully for the Republic, it is aimed at their own feet.
