Many LGBT-rights activists never believed Donald Trump’s campaign promises to be their friend. With his move to ban transgender people from military service on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, on top of other actions and appointments, they now see him as openly hostile. (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster)

According to the Fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association, gender dysphoria, or transgenderism, affects between 0.002% and 0.014 of the population at large.  In other words, it is extremely rare and it affects men more than women.  Given these stark statistics, it becomes obvious that something else is going on when it comes to the “trans craze.”

Depending on who you listen to, being transgender is either a most profound decision to live one’s life as they truly see it, or it is a mental affliction.  There is no disagreement that trans rights have jumped ahead of gay rights in the hierarchy of social justice activists.  The trans craze has even jumped over the Pokemon Go craze.

In Great Britain, many schools are facing a problem as many at private boy and girl schools are coming out as transgender or “non-binary.”  In a single year- 2018- almost 2,600 British school-age children were referred to a Gender Identity Service clinic.  These clinics provide services to trans kids, including hormonal treatments and surgery.

Some school administrators have noted that many of those who have come out as transgender are just trying to be cool or rebellious.  Others were just trying to be radical or were being influenced by older students and YouTube stars claiming to be transgender.   Unfortunately, they also noticed that many of those who have proclaimed their transgender status to the world happen to be vulnerable, particularly autistic.

Many of these students in Britain do not “follow through” on their transgender fallacy, but almost 2,600 have under the aegis of these Gender Identity Service clinics.  Hence, it may be easy to dismiss the trans craze as another manifestation of the rebelliousness of youth.  Everyone holds some cringeworthy beliefs from their childhood.  Twilight was all the rage not too long ago with a strange infatuation with vampirism.  And who can forget My Chemical Romance?  Part of growing up is learning how to test the boundaries and to see what you could get away with as you form a personality whether that includes the length, color or style of your hair, the clothes you wear, the music you listen to, the books you read, and the movies you watch.  But changing one’s gender on a whim was never part of that process, but is becoming so now.

The research shows that the trans craze is less real than it is a social contagion, according to researcher Lisa Littman at Brown University.  Her research has shown that children exposed to peers who have recently come out as transgender or exposure to social media stars have an increased tendency to declare their transgender status at some point.  Further, she showed that besides simply declaring themselves transgender, they are more likely to accept the dogma of the social justice movement.  They lashed out at heterosexual people, especially white males, tended to play “pronoun police” at home with their parents, and often referred to their parents as not “parents” but as “breeders.”  The research showed that the vocabulary sounded “wooden” and “scripted.”  There is a good reason for that observation: it is almost word-for-word from the trans activist movement.

Other researchers have referred to it as a “mass sociogenic illness” and have cautioned educators.  They are not heeding that advice.  In Australia, even though the book was on the shelves since 2014, only recently has anyone taken notice of these words from an author quoting a person in a book about transgenders:

From six up, I used to kiss other guys in my neighbourhood, make out with them, and perform oral sex on them. I liked it. I used to love oral. And I touched their you-know-whats. We were really young but that’s what we did.

Transgender awareness days are becoming more commonplace in preschools.  In Britain, transgender charities are promoting puberty-blocking hormonal therapy among educators to foist as a choice for children under the age of 12.  The taxpayer-funded BBC instructs viewers that there are now over 100 gender identities.  That “fact” has yet to be proven except in the mind of the transgender activists.  Humorously, one is called “[email protected]!&” where it is acceptable to combine a beard with a padded bra.  What used to be called transvestism is now called normal.

Challenging transgender activism can be dangerous to your professional health.  Take the case of Mario Lopez who questioned whether a child of three could choose their gender.  Lopez was forced to apologize by the Twitter mob for making “ignorant and insensitive” remarks faster than you can say “Saved by the bell.”  Ironically, his “ignorance” and “insensitivity” were actually the truth and required no apology.  Can we first allow a child to tie their own shoes, learn the alphabet and add two-digit numbers before they “get to choose” their gender?

The big thing in education these days is teaching our children acceptance.  There is a huge difference between accepting diversity and encouraging children who cannot tie a shoelace to change their gender with hormone therapy or, in the extreme, genital mutilation.

Western civilization is no longer under the sway of religious morality.  There no longer is a right and a wrong.  Everything is permitted.  But parents and educators can be the arbiters of morality.  It may cost you a job or it may cost you the wrath of the Twitter lynch mob.  However, the consequences of rash gender reassignment and hormonal therapies may leave an even longer trail of people with a lifetime of regret and suicidal dead bodies.

For the sake of 0.002 to 0.014% of the population, will we look back on these times of transgender activism and cringe?  Will transgenderism be the new Twilight, mullet, or My Chemical Romance?
