So I’ve decided to start writing for Red State. Which is odd, considering i check Huffington Post at least once a day. I know this community is quite different than my philosophical and ideological beliefs… however, most of my friends are conservatives, republicans, evangelical-christians, and often, all three. I thoroughly enjoy writing and engaging in political discourse. Political philosophy and theory are infinitely fascinating to me, and for a long time, I’ve been looking for an outlet of my thinking.
I’ve decided that writing for HuffPost, Salon *chuckles*, or any other liberal or democrat fiefdom would only be preaching to the choir. I really want to write and speak in a group of people who think differently than I do; for it would not only educate me, but expose me to new beliefs and concepts. I live in Texas… Dallas to be exact. But for some reason, conservatives , and conservative thinking seems very alien and distant to me. I feel that discussions with my girlfriends’ families about why Obama is a socialist fall short of real discussion.
I’m thrilled to be here, and I hope I am greeted with the kind of Red-State hospitality that goes along with Hamburger-Helper and hunting trips. I’m glad to be writing from “behind enemy lines”. Although I really don’t consider conservatism “the enemy”. As Thomas Paine said, “I view things as they are, without regard to place or person; my country is the world, and my religion is to do good.” Therefore, I love you all.
