Another bit of American culture being lost to the #woke:

Theodore Roosevelt statue will be removed from the front steps of the Museum of Natural History

(CNN) — A statue of President Theodore Roosevelt in front of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City will be removed, a statement from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office said Sunday.

Following the museum’s request to remove the statue, which features the nation’s 26th President on a horse with a Native American man standing on one side and an African man standing on the other, the mayor’s office announced the approval.

The announcement comes as several state’s grapple with how to handle removals of confederate monuments and other controversial statues.

“The American Museum of Natural History has asked to remove the Theodore Roosevelt statue because it explicitly depicts Black and Indigenous people as subjugated and racially inferior,” de Blasio’s office said in a statement to CNN. “The city supports the museum’s request. It is the right decision and the right time to remove this problematic statue.”

While it was meant to celebrate Roosevelt as a “devoted naturalist and author of works on natural history,” the statue also “communicates a racial hierarchy that the museum and members of the public have long found disturbing,” a press release on the museum’s website said.

The statue of President Roosevelt has been condemned as celebrating colonialism. The United States doesn’t have quite the colonialist history of some European nations, but we did have a bit, and for that, I must be grateful. Had the United States not annexed Hawai’i in 1898, my father would not have been an American soldier in Japan in 1951, and it is virtually certain that he would not have met my mother, a WAC working in General MacArthur’s headquarters. I exist due to what little American colonialism there was. You might not have as direct a link as I do, but if you are an American, born in the United States, without the conquest of the continent by European settlers, it’s unlikely that you would exist either.

The #woke are really thoughtless creatures. They condemn the European-American conquest of the inferior ‘indigenous’ tribes here, but if they had IQs higher than room temperature, they’d have to realize that it’s not just that they’d have to live in an overpopulated Europe, but, in all probability, they wouldn’t exist! Even if their parents had met in Europe, the existence of each of us is due to the accident of which sperm cell met which ovum, at the precise moment it did. European time being a span of several hours ahead of ours, the times at which their parents would have chosen to copulate would almost certainly be different.

Europeans and Asians and Hispanics have emigrated to the United States in search of better lives, because greater opportunity and better lives are possible here. Even blacks, many of whom had no choice in their ancestors being here, have far, far better lives than they would have had if they lived in Africa.

“To understand the statue, we must recognize our country’s enduring legacy of racial discrimination — as well as Roosevelt’s troubling views on race,” the press release said. “We must also acknowledge the museum’s own imperfect history. Such an effort does not excuse the past but it can create a foundation for honest, respectful, open dialogue.”

Sorry, but that’s just plain bovine feces. Did Theodore Roosevelt have “troubling views on race”? I suppose that, twenty years into 21st century, some would see his views as “troubling.” But he was born in 1858, before the Civil War, and matriculated at Harvard in 1876. He was a 19th century man, though his presidency occurred in the first years of the 20th. To expect a man of that time to hold 21st century views on race, or anything else, is ridiculous.

No more ridiculous, I suppose, than toppling statues of Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, because both owned slaves. They were 18st century men, holding the views common among white southerners during the late 18st century. Mr Jefferson was morally troubled by slavery, but not so troubled that he refrained from copulating with one of them nor so troubled that he manumitted his slaves.¹

With the mob’s war on seemingly everything, I guess that’s three heads out of four which need to be blown up on Mt Rushmore. Considering that the Great Emancipator himself, Abraham Lincoln, said on September 18, 1858, during the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates, began, “I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races,” going on to say that he opposed blacks having the right to vote, to serve on juries, to hold office and to intermarry with whites, I guess that we have to blow up the whole thing.

There is no amount of fealty that one can show to the #woke and #BlackLivesMatter that will ever be enough. They will not be satisfied until all of our culture has been wiped out, a la George Orwell’s Ministry of Truth in 1984.
