I confess; I’m not particularly bothered by the prospect of the Senate calling witnesses for this farce of an impeachment trial.

In fact, I’m of the belief that even if Romney suffers spinal failure and surrenders to the media on witnesses, it’ll actually do the Democrats far more harm than good, and at worst, we lose just one more week of confirming judges.

Of course, this changes if the GOP’s penchant for Stupidity™ strikes again and for some reason Republican Senators insert themselves into negotiating with Democrats what witnesses to call.

Instead McConnell should take the matter out of the Senate’s hands. He should give the House Democrats and the President’s lawyers a day or two to produce their lists of witnesses and then have the Senate vote to call the witnesses as a single package in one single yes or no vote.

That’s it; one and done – no more witnesses after that. Even Romney should fall in line.

Each side then gets 24 – 30 hours over 2 – 3 days to question and cross-examine the witnesses on the floor of the Senate – no matter how many.

It really does not require more than a week to have it all wrapped up.

My suggestion for the President’s list of witnesses would include Hunter Biden, Cameron Heinz, Devon Archer, Yuriy Lutsenko, Viktor Shokin, Joe Biden, Eric Ciaramella, Sean Misko, Adam Schiff, Alexandra Chalupa, Rudy Giuliani, John Solomon, Ken Vogel, John Kerry, Barack Obama and, if possible, Voldomyr Zelensky himself (via video conference).

Calling every reporter and their editor who ever wrote anything about Burisma and the Bidens before this is another consideration.

Faced with a list like this, the likelihood is that Senate Democrats would end up voting against calling any witnesses at all … which kills that talking point.

And if they don’t, we’ll … that’s even better.

Witnesses? Bring it on.
