The Obama Administration’s IRS targeted Americans for their political beliefs.  Former top  IRS official Lois Lerner abused the power of her office and refused to answer any questions from congressional oversight committees after proclaiming her own innocence.

The House Oversight Committee recommended specific action be taken to prosecute her criminally and voted her in contempt of Congress, yet the Obama Administration’s Justice Department has done nothing to pursue justice.

As The Hill reports,

Ronald Machen, the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia appointed by President Obama and set to step down next month, has not acted on a contempt of Congress charge for former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner.

Machen, who announced at the beginning of the week he’d step down April 1 to return to private practice, has not referred Lerner’s case to a grand jury. Her contempt citation for not testifying at two hearings has been in Machen’s hands since May 2014. . . .

“Under Lois Lerner’s direction, the IRS became a political tool used to systematically target and undermine Americans’ First Amendment rights,” said [mc_name name=’Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’J000289′ ] (R-Ohio), who accused Machen of using “his own post for political ends” by not referring the case to a grand jury for months “as he is legally bound to do.”

The Obama Administration has not and will not stop the abuse and hold those responsible accountable.

The utter degradation of duty is appalling.

The Justice Department may be refusing to pursue justice, but we’re aggressively fighting in a federal appeals court.  We recently filed an appeal of our case – representing dozens of targeted conservative groups from 22 states – with a federal appeals court in Washington, DC.  We will continue aggressively fighting in court and on Capitol Hill to ensure that the IRS abuse ends and the free speech rights of patriotic Americans is protected.

The Obama Administration cannot be allowed to continue to “investigate” itself.  Take action with us by signing our petition demanding an independent prosecutor – a Special Counsel – for the IRS scandal.
