The Obama administration is putting the full court press on the Arizona state government, challenging in federal court the constitutionality of SB 1070. Not only is this ludicrous, considering the Arizona law is based upon federal statutes, but it also costs Arizona more money to fight the law, in a state that is already straining to pay its bills.
When the Arizona immigration bill controversy began, along with proposed boycotts of the state, I sent a letter to Governor Brewer’s office, asking if there were any way private citizens could donate to Arizona’s State Government in order to help mitigate the economic impact of the boycotts. Here is the letter I received and a way to help, along with a copy of my original letter.
Thank you for your contacting the Governor’s Office. Many people have been contacting our office seeking ways to show their support of Governor’s Brewer signing of SB 1070 (immigration bill). We have determined how we can legally accept private donations. Donations (of any amount) are being accepted and deposited into a special FUND specifically established in light of Arizona’s recent immigration bill, Senate Bill 1070. Monies from this fund will be used to pay for legal costs associated with defending SB 1070.
We are working to post this information on the web which would also afford the opportunity to make an online donation using a major credit card. For now, if you wish to make a donation, you may send a check payable to the “State of Arizona” to:
Governor Janice K. Brewer
1700 W Washington, 9th Floor
Phoenix, AZ 85007
Governor Brewer appreciates your support of her action to sign one of America’s toughest immigration laws to which she firmly believes represents what is best for the State of Arizona. Thank you again for your support.

First, I would like to extend my compliments on your courage in passing the immigration enforcement law. I have nothing but admiration for the way you have handled this entire process.
I have watched with great concern as various boycotts have been put in place, attempting to strangle Arizona’s economy and back you off the immigration law. My suggestion to fight back against the boycott is this:
set up a site through the Governor’s office where people from Arizona and throughout the United States can make donations to Arizona’s state budget to offset the loss of revenues from the various boycotts.
I have no idea if this is allowable by law, but if it is, I would be happy to do the publicity to drive donations to your state for free. I think a large chunk of Americans support you and would like to show that support in a meaningful way. Donations could be as little as $5.00 and go on up from there, so even those of limited means could show their support.

Thanks for your time,
