A hill to die on. What do you stand for?
On the eve of a very hotly contested DE Senate GOP primary between Mike Castle and Christine O’Donnell, I have begun to see some things that the GOP is falling right back into the very same power trap that they fell into over the last decade. John Boehner apparently hinting that he would vote for Obama’s stimulus bill if he gets tax cuts? Some people around the blogosphere and here panicking over the thought that Christine O’Donnell might beat Mike Castle and thus have no chance in upending Chris Coons, the Democratic Senate candidate. By the way, PPP(D), the pollster who does polling for the liberal blog Daily Kos, showed a poll with Christine O’Donnell up 47-44 yesterday and I think this is a poll that is motivated to help O’Donnell win, not really a true reflection of the state of the race. I think Castle is up between 3-6 points but it has definitely tightened as O’Donnell has gotten a lot of big name endorsements from Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint and the NRA. Suddenly some people are wanting so badly to regain control of the Senate, they are willing to abandon the core priniciples that the GOP used to stand for to elect a candidate who voted for Cap and Trade, voted for the Stimulus, authored the DISCLOSE Act, etc. Mike Castle is as about as blue as a RINO that you can get.
Have we become so blinded by desperation to get back into the majority that we are willing to abandon our priniciples again? Have we forgotten the lessons of 2006 and the big government actions of GOP congressmen prior to that debacle? I certainly hope not.
I do have some issues with Christine O’Donnell in regards to her past and background, some rookie mistakes she has made with statements in her campaign, but she does stand for what we believe in. If we are to take back our country and install public servants in Congress whom we believe in, we need to do it from the inside out and not be afraid to risk losing a seat in Congress to do it. After all, with John Raese having fierce momentum against Manchin in WV tying him to Obama and highlighting Manchin’s pro cap-and-trade statements, Linda McMahon surging against Dick Blumenthal, Rob Johnson leading Russ Finegold with a sizeable amount of voters who don’t know about him, Dino Rossi leading Patty Murray and Carly Fiorina leading Barbara Boxer as well, Sharron Angle even and looking to pull ahead of Harry Reid, we have more than one avenue to a path to 51 Senators.
Note to John Boehner. The MSM is trying to trap you into making compromise statements which will divide the conservative base. The Dems are desperate to get Nancy Pelosi and Democrat incumbent voting records out of the public focus and this classic divide-and-conquer strategy seems to be the way they are trying to accomplish this. Do not help them.
Pick your hill to die on by sticking to core conservative principles that made this country great.
