If you haven’t heard about the “Nashville Statement”—a document created by the Coalition for Biblical Sexuality and originally signed by more than 150 evangelical and church leaders—then you are unaware of the latest battle in the culture war being fought between LGBT extremists and those who believe in traditional biblical morality.

The Nashville Statement is a basic declaration of Christian orthodoxy on sexual morality, sexual orientation, and sexual identity. In the words of National Review Senior Writer David French, an original signatory of the document, the 14 articles it includes can be boiled down to a simple statement:

We believe the Bible is the word of God, and the word of God declares that sexual intimacy is reserved for the lifelong union of a man and a woman in marriage. It acknowledges the reality of same-sex attraction as well as the reality of transgender self-conceptions, but denies that God sanctions same-sex sexual activity or a transgendered self-conception that is at odds with biological reality. In other words, it’s basic Christianity.

Politically correct, cowardly politicians such as the Mayor of Nashville, Megan Barry, have joined hands with the Gay Mafia in attacking Nashville Statement for its failure to reflect what she calls her city’s “inclusive values.” So-called liberal Christians and Evangelicals have also joined in the assault.

In response to the Nashville Statement, “Christians United” has released a counter statement calling on those who oppose the LGBT movement to repent of their “sin of exclusion,” apparently unaware that Jesus never taught tolerance.

Christians United also affirms that God’s desire for human romantic relationships isn’t limited to a heterosexual relationship between one man and one woman. And they state that God didn’t create the male/female binary, society and culture did—meaning that God created the gender confused—and only by being faithful to the lie of transgenderism can they remain faithful to God.

The culture war is just that—a war—and we are where we are today because we have refused to fight, thinking that by staying out of the conflict we won’t be affected. That’s a lie. Silence is exactly how evil advances. We need to arm ourselves with the truth and fight.
