On April 29th of this year Google sent me a generic and broadly worded automated email stating that they where suspending my Adsense advertising due to a policy violation.
The Google email referenced a short piece I wrote about a story involving a possible Trayvon Martin revenge murder in Memphis.(story here)
Due to the fact that I have been working 12-14 hour days the last three weeks at my day job I have simply not had the time or opportunity to challenge Google’s assertion until late Thursday night. That appeal is currently pending.
The text of the supposed policy violation(s) follows:
It is important for a site displaying AdSense to offer significant value to the user by providing unique and relevant content, and not to place ads on auto-generated pages or pages with little to no original content.
Your site should also provide a good user experience through clear navigation and organization. Users should be able to easily click through your pages and find the information they are seeking.
Please review Google’s Webmaster Quality Guidelines ( http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66361 ) for more information.
UNNATURAL ATTENTION: Publishers are not permitted to encourage users to click on Google ads or bring excessive attention to ad units. For example, your site may not use symbols such as graphics, arrows, or misleading images that direct attention to the ads. This also includes placing Google ads in floating box scripts. More information about this policy can be found in our help center ( https://www.google.com/adsense/support/as/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=115985 ).
Action required: Check account for compliance
While ad serving has been disabled to the above site, your AdSense account remains active. Please be aware that the URL above is just an example and that the same violations may exist on other pages of this website or other sites you own. Therefore, we suggest that you take the time to review the rest of your sites to ensure that they’re in compliance with our policies, and to monitor your sites accordingly to reduce the likelihood of future policy emails from us. Additionally, please note that our team reserves the right to disable accounts at any time if we continue to see violations occurring.
As I write this I have extreme doubts that my appeal will even be considered because Google has done the exact same thing to Weasel Zippers one of several sites that have been key over the life of this blog in spreading several of the major stories that I broke from here in Northern Illinois(that list is here and that list doesn’t even include everything I’ve done in the last year regarding congressman Adam “Bombs Away” Kinzinger).
According to a transcript of a conversation WZ’s had with Google employees responsible for handling appeals taking William Shakespeare’s line that brevity is the soul of wit is insufficient “original content” and thus a violation of Adsense policies.
As WZ’s points out that would make every news aggregation site(which is what WZ’s is while I’m a bit of a hybrid of everything) in violation of Adsense policy, and considering you basically can’t have internet advertising revenue or ads without Google me, Weasel Zippers, and hundreds of other blog sites, both left and right are all at risk of being shut out from having an oppurtunity to make at least some money from our websites.
Given that Google has been up to this for a week and a half I have no doubt that an entire laundry list of sites(probably mostly small timers like me) have been effected.
How can I say that, because Google’s employee admitted as much to Weasel Zippers.
“I can assure you that you are not being singled out or targeted.”
This is a chilling attempt to quite at least two conservative new media voices(with surely many many more to follow) by trying to dry up our revenue streams is shameful.
Contact Google and tell them to restore our advertising.

*Update: as of Saturday 5/10/14 USofArn.com’s advertising has been restored. Google is still denying advertising revenue to Weasel Zippers, please contact Google and make them restore WZ’s ads as well.
